Unexpected Repair.

As they say buying a second hand car is a gamble, as you never know the cars history, my RAV4 was bought from a Toyota dealer as a 1 year old one owner vehicle, what i didn't expect was the door frame to start going rusty

I did have my suspicions that the passenger door may have been repaired as the clear plastic stone chip sticker was missing from the bottom of the door and a few months after ownership the weather strip along the Glass to door kept coming loose but after finding the black paint around the door frame going rusty i can only guess its had a door replaced and not by a quality repairer :( .

Although having said that the paint finish and colour match to the door is excellent, pity they couldn't have spend a few extra quid on the paint for the frame.

I've been looking at painting the frame for the last few weeks and on Sunday the sun was out so i got the job done.

Now satin black has to be one of the easiest colours to spray on (well other that silver wheel spray :) ), first a coat of Grey primer then 3 coats of satin black, the rubber molding on both inner and outer frame areas just peeled back, then with the job all finished they push back into a fitting slot.

All in all the job took around 2 hours and now looks as good as new, now what i know from working in a main dealer back in the early 80's, any new car could of had paintwork done, either after the factory production run or at the dealer, i think we all just like to believe our car are brand new and not tampered with, still all sorted now and shes looking like new again.

if it's a toyota second hand car with full warranty why not just going back and let them do the job?

Well its out of the 3 year warranty now and if i can spot its been painted ,then so will a Toyota body shop guy, and his first reply would be " its had paintwork done sir, no not covered by the warranty".

...And under Toyota perforation warranty, well the metal has not rusted through ,just surface rust , so again not covered :(
