Well, after owning my Gen 7 for a couple of weeks I'm starting to get the modding bug again....

I've already dropped it a bit on TTE springs and got a couple of other bits on their way but I want to know where I can ge thold of one of these.

If anyone knows I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers.

cheapest place is probably usa eBay. I know a few people that have this scoop. You can get them for about 50$ plus shipping, shouldnt cost more than £60 in total.

However personally i prefer the look of the TRD sport m scoop.

Although the biggest problem with these fiberglass replica scoops is the fitment... some have been able to paint and fit with no work, others have had to get a bodyshop to fit them.

But then the genuine scoops run in over £100 so cheaper to get a replica and make it fit.

Could someone tell the function of the scoop?

Is it to create downforce? as all I can see is the airflow would just disapears down under the car, 'cos the air intake is at the front of the engine or is it just asthetics?

Cheers.

its mainly aesthetics but does serve a function to cool something - but i forget what!

Quite nice when you have the bigger scoop seeing the air rippling off the bonnet!

Are these the TRD scoops?

I think they look a bit too stuck on, I like the Brash Boy scoop as it's a bit more subtle, like a beefed up standard scoop.

I can't find a Brash Boy scoop anywhere as their site doesn't seem to be running properly. There must be somewhere in the UK that imports them though.

Is this the one you're after?

Seems a bit over priced for what it is though.

Is that your car then Vince?

Looks very nice, the carbon bonnet would suit it a treat!

Are those eighteens you're running?

If so do you have any issues with rubbing?

Yep, they're 18x8 with 225/40/zr18 tyres. No rubbing at all, but I do have to make sure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead before jacking the front end up or the tyres will touch the side skirts as the suspension droops when the wheels come off the ground.

It's a Veilside bodykit by the way, I bought the car with it all fitted, it's a 190 import with tiptronic transmission.

As the manifold is round the back of the engine, it needs some way of keeping cool. The direction of air as it goes through the hood scoop is pointed straight at the manifold, thus keeping it cooler than it would otherwise be. So, its important to remember to get the airflow right when replacing scoops. I seem to remember the plastic air channel from the original is removable and replacable in to other scoops, but make sure when replacing to get the fit and direction right!

And yes, looks quite nice too! :)
