just wondering how long it takes for your car to warm up lads and lasses.

i was out the other day and i had been driving for about 40 mins and when i hit lift in second and 3rd, wow! my ears hurt with window down.

today i finished work and followed my friend in his mr2 for a few mins, 10mins max. temp gauge had just reached its usual point.

anyways my lift didnt feel nowere near as strong as it was after driving for 40 mins, does this sound normal ?

cheers :)

Sound normal to me, I have a compressor I need to have been driving for about 30-40 mins to feel it at all, anything less and its not noticable so I always let it warm up first.

I'm always caucious with mine when starting. It takes aout 5-10mins to get to the sweet spot in terms of temp. Mornings can take up to 15mins.

I never ever take the revs above 3500-4000 when the car is cold. If you do you won't feel the lift, but worse still you could actually damage the engine. I don't know how tough the engines are when abused, but if you wait 5-10mins for the car to warm up fully you should get a lot of miles out of the engine before you start having problems.

If you want to warm your car up quicker, get on a dual carriageway and do the steady speed limit (dont take revs above 4k max) for 5mins and the car will be fully warm, otherwise pottering around back/side roads it will take the full 10 or more mins.

I know it's hard to resist, when i first bought the car from my sister i had no idea about lift, infact i think my sister purposefully did not tell me about it, even though she was desperate to sell it as she had a new company car.

So there was me revving the thing hard from the get go like I did with every other car i've owned, cold or not and didn't actually feel the lift till caught me off guard, my face must have been a sight!.

IT was only after did i realise lift did not kick in because the engine was still cold, but it felt rougher and not as smooth when pushing hard. Once the car is warm is pulls really smoothly, eargerly all the way to the redline. Feels so much nicer when you know the engine is working exactly to spec and not being abused. A sense of confidence that it's not going to blow at any minute from all the abuse thrown at it for however long.

It just means years more lift in store if you change your habits and learn to be very relaxed driving for 15mins when you first start it. Stick on some classic FM or something. After that let the rev needle kiss the 8260rpm redline.

Takes me to the nearest traffics lights (about 5 mins) to warm it up, granted... i don't move it till the windows have cleared etc. So it's got a little head start...

For me its fully warmed up after a couple of miles. I won't use lift without it be fully warmed up on the temp gauge.

Its funny because I hardly go far in my car for it to go warm. I drive it to the station to go work which is 4 mins drive. My gf lives about 10 mins drive away. and everything else is within 10 mins drive from me so by the time my car is warm - I reach destination point haha.

Great fun! Just wait to the weekend.
