Just discovered another vehicle that uses the Aygo's 3 cylinder petrol engine. Pug 107, Citroen C1, Daihatsu Sirion and now the perodua Kelisa. The perodua has the engine limited to 55bhp

The below link has pictures of the engine bay, which shows a completely different air intake to the Aygo.

If you're intrested in cold air intakes, the Diahatsu Sirion seems to have an OEM fitted one

compared to aygo

It looks a bit like an old Nissan Micra! Perhaps they borrowed the bodywork design too?

I think I will stay with my automatic Aygo+ though. I don't fancy their three speed, fully automatic transmission.

I'm not loving that ;)

Maybe it will cheer you up to learn that the petrol Aygo engine has a power to weight ratio good enough for aircraft engines!!

My first thought was "Old Daihatsu Cuore"...

Before they "squared out" the design...

For engine 1KR-FE, TRD do a aftermarket Air filter, which maybe preferable to people (like me) not wanting to get a K&N filter, which needs filter oil

You would probably get away with using toilet tissue as an Airfilter on the Perodua (!)

The New Subaru Justy also has the 1KR-FE engine, wich is not that strange, as the new Justy looks like the Daihatsu Sirion as the C1 looks as an Aygo

The Perodua Kelisa engine (EJ-VE) has a bore-stroke of 72x84mm, 989cc

The 1KR-FE is 71x84mm and 998cc, so a different 3 cilinder.

what about EJ-DE ? I was surprised to discover that that diahatsu made 2 version of a 1litre 3 pot engine

Boyh engines you are talking about are older than the 1KR-FE engine.

It may need filter oil but not for a minimum of 30,000miles and the filter is guaranteed for the life of your car which not many filter manufactures can offer.

K&N filters are not cheap but they are regarded as some of the finest quality filters available and with the Aygo petrol engine they offer a direct replacement filter which means all you do is swap one filter for the other.

Fitting the new filter willnot effect the warranty on your new or newish car and willnot loose its filtration effectiveness when it becomes dirty.

with the use of a specially formulated oil you clean the muck off the filter using lukewarm water allow to dry naturally and then reapply the oil and way you go for another 30,000+ miles, and that filter is guaranteed for 1million miles or the life of your car which ever comes first

What do they say about "Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?

Dictionary definition =

"To imitate someone is to pay the person a genuine compliment—often an unintended compliment."

At least we were the first.

Just found another vehicle that uses the Aygo engine: Its called a RUMEN 4 STROKE and I think it looks gorgeous.

The 2006 spec version is quoted as having a 700cc 100bhp engine, but they seem to have given this french jounalist a pug 107 powered one to play with.

It's fitted to the diesel Aygo. Some of the gear ratios are different because of the higher torque

That's good news because if it was petrol then it would be geared for nearly 200mph at 6400rpm !

If there was any car that could do with a 6 speed gearbox then it would be the Aygo, then you could have 30mph, 50mph, 75mph, 100mph, 120mph and 140mph. This would allow the 2 overdrive gears and allow better in gear performance. Quite frankly a 3rd gear that will do 90mph when the top speed is 96mph is a bit dickless

Andy
