53 Corolla 2.0 D4-d Engine Problems

I've got a 53 reg Corolla 2.0 D4-d, a short while back the engine management light came on whilst driving down the motorway on the way to work, engine still performing ok. Checked all levels and they where ok. Started up the engine on the way back from work and ran fine no management light at all. I thought great it's just a blip.

Driving to work again and the light came on, again the engine performs ok. MPG etc all still the same as before. Driving back from work and doing around 3000 rpm in fourth gear the power suddenly blipped off, power came back after a second and ran ok from then on.

Tonight I have driven to work and the problem seems to have got worse, if I accelerate hard the engine will not rev above 3200 rpm, if I change gear (up) the power comes back and the engine starts to pull again until I get back up to 3200 rpm when the engine then looses power.

Any ideas the fault is intermittent, sometime its there other times its not.

Just had it checked out, P1228 fault ! Fuel pressure, thinks it could be the pump ???

Anyone have any further info on the P1228 fault code ?
