Hi all.....our Rav when you start it from cold revs at around 2000 RPM but as soon as it starts to warm up it drops down and ticks over at 850/900 RPM when the engine reaches normal running temp, the car runs perfectly cold & hot......is this normal ?...........we have only had the car for about 6 weeks.

Mileage is 61000.....Petrol 2.0 2000 m/y Mk 2.

Regards Pete :)

The warm idle speed is OK and the cold seems a bit high but how long does it stay there?

Just have a look (and listen) to check if there are any vacuum pipes of anywhere near the inlet manifold.

Cheers

Hi anchorman...I checked it again this weekend and when you first start it's around 1800 rpm and after a few seconds it drops to 1600rpm,then 1300 after about another 40 seconds, then as the temp gauge starts to rise it goes down to normal tick over speed.....I tried this with the car stationery and not driving off as soon as it started so I think this sounds about right?....there was no vacuum hoses off or sound of leaking vacuum.

Many thanks for your reply.....Pete :)

Mine runs at about 1500 when started. Can go a couple of hundred higher but as soon as temp gauge moves it comes down. Hot idle about 800.

Yes I think both of these vehicles (Silver Fox and pmb) are behaving OK. You may find that when changing gear they tend to hang on to revs. This is also Ok and serves to smooth out the gear change.

Regards

Thanks for the replys....I had a chance to check another car today and mine stays on high revs a lot longer....so I think it must have a fault in the cold idle control device, has any one got any w/shop info on the pipes and where the device is.....

Regards Pete
