Rust On Rear Brake Discs

Hi,

Had my rear brake pads and discs changed nearly 1000k miles ago and I've noticed that there seems to be abit of rust on the discs. Surely the parts should not rust so early on.

Do I just need to give them a clean using a wire brush and some brake cleaner and then they should stay rust free for abit? I looked at other cars and they all look shiney compared to mine.

Thanks

Ed

i changed my rear discs bout 500miles ago and mine r starting to rust. i think its common, bcos even if i dnt drive the car for a few days, the whole disc starts to rust ( Front & Rear) but after stepping on the brakes a few times it all disapears, but obviously the parts where the pad doesnt touch itll get rusty and the only way to get rid of them is to scrub them off.

Yup it's pretty normal on our cars, when it's left standing and the discs get wet, they get covered in a nice sheen of orange rust, but after a short drive, the contact points should be clean again. If you look at new Minis they also do this.

Since changing to uprated discs though, I haven't seen any rusting.

They are cast iron and will rust, the best thing to do is wire brush the centre hub and paint it with hammerite, that stops the centre hub from rusting again.

Kingo
