Insurance Questions

Hey

My favorite car is a Supra and I really want one for my first car. I am going to take my driving test in January which is when I'm 17.

I was wondering if anyone knowns how much it would cost for insurance for a non-turbo (or with turbo).

Sorry but no insurance company will insure a 17 year old on a supra. You best off getting something small to start with and waiting until after your 20th birthday.

If there is someone out there that would do it then expect to pay more in insurance than you actually pay for the car.

Yes, I don't mind about the price too much. Isn't there like a thing you can add into the engine to down-grade the power from say 3.0i to like 1.5i?

I am also going to be taking an advanced drive course.

Eh? no there isnt such thing. And also if you want a 1.5 then you need a yaris not a supra. If anything 3.0 is too small, the supra should have had a bigger engine as standard....

i dont know why any one would even say such a thing, I suppose the do the same thing to moterbikes... but a supra is not a good first car, not even a good second!

What I always say is 'well done, you've passed your driving test - now you start to learn to drive!'

It's a ridiculous idea for a new driver to jump straight in a supra. As everyone else has said, get a small car.

In all honesty you are clearly and idiot and should not get a supra.

As for the fast car thing I drove a soarer TT at 17 and was fine ;)

Thats a bit harsh.

If it helps, my ex girlfriend bought an MR2 Turbo when she was 19 and she paid just over £2000 a year insurance.

hmm all this is clearly not helping so if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything :)

Well said!

As I said, my ex girlfriend bought an MR2 Turbo when she was 19 and she paid just over £2000 a year insurance, think the insurance group is similar. You will always find a company to insure you at whatever age but you will pay thru the nose!

Hope you have a big wallet!

Its not harsh, in the other thread he was talking about "Engine Convertment"

I did have a helpful ish comment about young people driving fast cars, but that was overlooked :P

If u really want a Supra U'd be best off with a N/A one.. even then its still gonna cost a small fortune to keep it on the road..I drive a gas guzzling celica, and im 26 and insurance is still kinda high, well i fink so.. I couldnt afford it at 17 cos my wages were *****... but if u can afford it fair play... just make sure u get some life insurance at the same time ay..

Good luck with the test and happy huntin for a car..

my first's an astra...good first car, easy to work on and get your bearings but still easy to slightly tune if you so wish, my only fear with a supra for first car would be kadonking it once you get into the internals....like jumping off a very high diving board into the proverbial deep end, dont be a fool....do as all the previous people have mentioned and get a small car, or do as im doing, drive the small car and have a supra as a project car, so its ready by the time or maybe later than you are!

My first was an 86 toyota truck, 22R engine, manual w/ 250k miles on it, awesome 1st vehicle even though I hated trucks. Ultra cheap and easy to work on, which made learning all the basics of car repair / maintenance a breeze, and they run forever. Tuning a 22R isn't worth it though, but an engine swap is actually easy even if you have to relocate mounts and alter the engine bay, provided you can cut and weld. I went to a chevy 350 small block bored 10 over with a supercharger. 11 years and 190k miles later it finally got totalled by a 19yo slightly drunk kid joy riding in his dad's 97 vette and plowing into me after he ran a stop sign and ripping the front end almost off.

Get something cheap, and easy to work on that you can supe up a little before jumping into the high end with 0 experience. Half of the fun of having a tuned car is tuning it yourself.

My fav car is a supra and i will have one soon. but my heart lies with Starlet turbos at the min. getting one of them soon. im gona be paying 1200 quid and im 19 with 0ncb. at 21 and 0 ncb i would be paying 1600 quid for a supra twin turbo which is quite cheap. just wait dude, iv already owned one starlet turbo but had to get rid of it because i didn't have a job. best things come to those who wait! :)

I would love a Supra, it isn't all that realistic though, but if you shop around I'm sure some companies will do it, but it will cost. I just got a Yaris TSport for the first car, when I'm out of uni I'll be thinking of upgrading, and a Supra will be considered, amongst many others.

Like the others, a Supra is way too ambitious :P

I've been driving a 1.2 Punto for 3 years (as per parent command) and only recently got bored of driving it, getting a 2.0 mr2 N/A today (thats the plan anyway) and i still wont touch a Supra even though i could insure one :D

Get something affordable, a 1.4 or 1.6 max and try to avoid the typical boy-racer type cars.

Last thing i could suggest is becoming a named drive on a parents policy (this bought my first insurance quote down by about £400)

Hope this helps, if you're still around on the forums that is.

For your first car, get a normal car!

Most accidents happen within the 1st year or so of driving... and with young drivers.

I bet you my Supra you would kill yours within a year!

hate to ruin your fun but im 20 and they still want anywhere between 3600 and 9000quid for insurance after 2 and half years driving crash free

plus you will 99.9% hurt yourself or someone else having that for ur first car lol get some experence first!

Why are all you ****ers being really nasty to him? I can only imagine you are all old and bitter that is the reason you don't want him to have a Supra :censor: I was looking at Supras the other day on Autotrader, saw one for £1500 although I don't know if it's any good though. And to everyone saying "No one will insure you on a Supra" ofcourse there would be! These is freakin capitalism you fools! If you are willing to pay them then they will insure you. Haven't you heard of specialist insurance either? I can't be bothered to run the details through a comparison site but I am sure there will atleast be one obscure insurer who would insure him. I would like to get a Supra after I have built up a few years no claims. Oh yeah and don't use !Removed! women as an example  They get an unfair discount. And why get something smaller? What is wrong with a Mondeo, 406 or Honda Accord? You guys are always trying to talk down to young lads aren't you? There is no need for a *****ty little supermini when a normal sized car will do.

What do you mean like me???

I am just saying that a 17 year old with no real driving experience cant handle a 3 litre RWD. There are lessons to be learnt in your first few years of driving, and having that much power especially in an older car could be quite serious to himself and others!
