Hi,

just noticed that the bottom left hand corner (the area under the 10 and 20 mph markings) of my speedo does not seem to be illuminated when the lights are on.

Can any one confirm that this is normal or has a bulb or led gone, and if so is it likely to be covered under warranty.?

Thanks,

Alan

Hi

Just been out in mine and looked and mines all lit up under that areas so yeah think you may have a bulb gone. Not sure about the warranty but give you dealer a ring and ask cos i imagine it would be a fidly job if you dont know what ur doing, or maybe Halfords if garage cant help?

Illumination s done by 3 LEDs; two under the scale and one behind the LCD,

the needle is lit by a separate LED ath the center, near its pivot.

The LEDs in the circular clear bit of plastic are for illumination, so yes, there IS a

bit of a dim bit at both ends of the scale, but I've never found it to be annoying.

I have only noticed since this post started that my dial too appears not to light up, but this only seems to be around dusk, when it isn't pitch black. In full darkness it does light the dial properly. Looking at the picture with all the bulb positions behind the facia, probably explains why that corner is a bit dim.

that doesnt look like it gives much light - can u change the colour of them as think it would look great in blue to match the rest of car?

Unless you want to doe some SERIOUS modification you can't change the color of

the illumination. As its doen with LEDs, the color comes directly from the lightsource,

instead of from a coat of paint or a translucent rubber cover. And you can't get

blue light from amber LEDs as there is no blue light available in amber...

If you want to change the color anyway you'd have to take apart the entire dash and

desolder the LEDs, replacing them with blue ones (or another color to your liking),

The original faceplate can be retaied as it has no coloring in it AFAICT:

Changed the LED's the other day on my mates 2006 Astra dash and it looked great. Basically if you are confident with a soldering iron it isn't that hard.

#1 You need to have a soldering iron with a thin tip.

#2 Lots of Patience

To do it you need to get replacement LED's that are blue obviously and then float the old ones of in the solder. Then Making note of the direction of the polarity of the LED replace it with the blue one. Be careful here as too much heat from the soldering iron in one go may render the LED useless. Also another tip, make a marking with a pen for the ones you have done as you wouldn't want to do it twice!

The only thing I've noticed is that the 5mph markers do not illuminate at night!!
