Hi guys im a newbie,

I was doing a three point turn when some guy decided not to stop and hit my car.........not happy  the thing is after he hit my car the alarm decided to go a bit funny, the alarm will unlock the car but not lock it, this never happen before the bump.....(by the way the bump was not bad, i need a new headlight, fog light and indicator light, the bump was on the right hand side of the car).

I was told bt someone that it might be because of the indicator light not working the alarm may not lock the car.....i couldnt see how that would effect the locking of the car and not the unlocking???...

Now the car is fixed and all light are working.....but im still having the same problem, i have tried all the holding the button and taking the Battery out, i have tried holding the buttons together but nothing has worked.

Can anyone help me??

Just to make sure i have written the problem right i will re-cap:

the key fob will UNLOCK the car but not arm and LOCK the car.

Thanks in adviance

A broken door or boot sensor perhaps? IIRC the system doesn't arm if it thinks one of the doors is open?

Does anything happen when you press lock - e.g. a sound, or flash of the lights? Have you tried the other key?

The car only hit the bumper off the car it didnt hit the door, the alarm does not sound, it flashes on the key fob, its the only key fob that i have and can not use another one.

Where the car hit you may not be relevant to this problem, but has the knock to the bumper prevented the bonnet or tailgate from closing fully? Do all the interior lights work as you would expect - i.e. come on when you open the hatch or doors, and go off when you close them?

The faulty alarm may be pure co-incidence (unlikely I know) or else a hit on one part of the body could have caused problems elsewhere if it was severe enough.

Does anyone know if these alarms have a tilt sensor? Strikes me (no pun intended) that a tilt sensor might be sensitive to a bump even the bump wasn't right next to the point of impact.

My beloved occasionally displays the same symptoms. Opening & closing the boot solves the glitch so perhaps the bump you had created a wee gap which has put out your bonnet sensor.

Just wanted to mention that when i got my Celica back from the garage i had problems with the alarm, turns out it was the door latches which were loose just needed tightening up with a star screwdriver. Might be worth a quick check. You could try sitting inside ur car and gently push the door outwards whilst its closed, you may get the red 'door open' symbol.
