i belive that is an aAE90 (as it has the 4A-F the EE90 has a smaller engine)

1A

The 1.5 L (1452 cc) 1A was produced in 1978 and 1979. It was a 2-valve SOHC engine.

2A

The 1.3 L (1295 cc) 2A was produced from 1979 through 1986. Cylinder bore was 76 mm (2.99 in) and stroke was 71.4 mm (2.81 in). It was a 2-valve SOHC design like its predecessor.

Output ranged from 65-75 hp (48-56 kW) at 5400-6000 rpm and 72-79 ft·lbf (97-107 N·m) at 3600 rpm.

3A

The 1.5 L (1452 cc) 3A was produced from 1979 through 1988. Cylinder bore was 77.5 mm (3.05 in) and stroke was 77 mm (3.3 in). It was a 2-valve SOHC like the 1A and 2A. There were California-spec (3A-C), Japan-spec (3A-U), transverse (3A-L), and swirl-intake (3A-S) versions of the same basic design.

Power output ranged from just 62 hp (46 kW) at 4800 rpm all the way to 90 hp (67 kW) at 6000 rpm. Torque was less spread from 75 ft·lbf (101 N·m) at 2800 rpm to 89 ft·lbf (120 N·m) at 4000 rpm.

4A

The 4A was produced from 1980 through 1998. All 4A engines have a displacement of 1.6 L (1587 cc). Cylinder bore was enlarged from the previous 3A engines at 81 mm (3.19 in), but stroke remained the same as the 3A at 77 mm (3.03 in).

Numerous variations of the basic 4A design were produced, from SOHC 2-valve all the way to DOHC 5-valve versions. Power was also extremely varied, from 70 hp (52 kW) at 4800 rpm in the basic California-spec 4A-C to 170 hp (127 kW) at 6400 rpm in the supercharged 4A-GZE.

4A-C

The basic 4A and Cal-spec 4A-C was an SOHC 8-valve carbureted engine, rated at 70-90 hp (52-67 kW) at 4800 rpm. Torque was good for a small engine, at 85 ft·lbf (115 N·m) at 2800 rpm in even the "strangled" early-1980s California-spec version.

4A-E

fuel injection was added for the 1981 through 1988 4A-E. This pushed output to 78 hp (58 kW) at 5600 rpm and 87 ft·lbf (117 N·m) at 4000 rpm in export form.

A special Japan-spec transverse 4A-ELU was also produced in 1986. Output for this engine was 100 hp (75 kW) at 5600 rpm and 101 ft·lbf (136 N·m) at 4000 rpm.

4A-F

A narrow-valve (22.3°) DOHC 4-valve carb version, the 4A-F, was produced from 1987 through 1990. Output was 90 hp (67 kW) at 6000 rpm and 95 ft·lbf (128 N·m) at 3600 rpm. Toyota models that have had this engine:

Had one for 7 yrs, what a bullet proof machine, but heavy on petrol.

1.6 4-af engine,

broke down once cause she cracken the t-belt put and new one on and away she went,

never had a penny spent on her in the 7 yrs saw about 3-4 services i'd say.

Odd time when i dipped her for oil, to find not a drop inside her.

as i said bullet proof,

known as toyota sprinters here in ireland.

think executives were same thing uk market but had electrics and sunroof.

had 15" tsw stealths on mine.

she was grey mettalic.

wouldn't mind another one, minter with low miles.

there a lovely car to drive, in my opinion one of the best cars toyota ever made, and i have had corolla gt's and celica gt4's before.

Yep. I have one. Stays in the Garage & only comes out on dry Sundays :lol: It is an Executive GL liftback & not the same as a Sprinter.

These were never, as far as I know, on sale here in Ireland. My 1st one was originally from Northern Ireland, & my current one , I bought on E -Bay 4 years ago for Stg400. It had its MOT , but I had to get it put through our NCT. The examiner came out & congratulated me on my car. He did the same 2 years later.

The only problem is the inclination to rust around the Sunroof & arches. Keep that under control & you have a car for life. They are fast, comfortable & quiet.

I had to get my old one crunched last week. I am moving house & will not have room. Where do you stop taking off bits you might need? Just shut my eyes & couldn't watch her go. Got the Death Certificate yesterday :crybaby:

Sorry Mate. Just saw your post now. Give me a couple of weeks & I'll try to get them up. I am ok at transferring them to my computer, but will have to wait till my Son comes home to help me upload. I'm not very computer literate. :(

I used to have one in black. Best car i ever had. 1.6 executive. Some ****** crashed in the back of me. Damage was to bad so the car was a write off.

It is very bizarre the way they make you have a certificate for something as horrible as destruction. I guess it is the same as a death certificate for humans. Still wish the authorities wouldn't rub it in though :angry:

Just recently joined and was searching for this model on the forums, as i've just bought one. This is the GL executive Auto

Just bought for £450 with 1 year ticket. Could do with another bonnet, but havent a clue where to look. The Corolla parts link seems to be all about performance bits / add ons, which at this point in time, doesnt interest me really. Maybe later ;)

for some reason wont let me download the photo's? and i am a paying member? i had a 1300 12valve GL liftback, car did 200k before i traded her in. the only thing that went was the alternator and the radiator was changed. they certainly dont make um like that anymore :(

Nice one, Mate :thumbsup: Congratulations. She looks in good nick from the photo. They tend to develop cancer round the Sunroof & arches if you don't keep an eye on it. Why a new bonnet? Looks ok. I had to send my spare one to the crushers :( . Try E_Bay. There are usually a couple on there for sale, some of them for breaking.

Thanks Biz - yup, in good nick all round really. No rust that i can see ( i bet i missed some somewhere ) even the sills are spotless, as is the interior. The dealer claimed that this car had done 47,000 miles from new, and had only been owned by 2 people in the same family. The log book bore out the ownership, but i'm dubious about the mileage claim. I mean, its just over 2,500 miles a year on average !

AS for the bonnet, well it works fine, but its kinked up each side, so the corners dont meet the wings by about half an inch. Probably had a whack or someone sat on it :) Also, the release lever under the dash is missing, so there's only the actual cable poking through to be able to pull, although it does work ok.

Those are the only faults that i could find - all the leccy windows and sunroof were faultless, as were the aircon, and lights etc etc

Oh by the way - have i got a 16v engine ??

That is the heading of the Post.

I reckon that you do have the 16v engine. Both of mine did. My present one actually has it printed on the back.

Keep an eye on e-bay. There were always a few up for sale, but not so frequently now. I bought mine there with 120k on the clock. Had been owned by the one family from new,& well cared for.

4 years ago this month, I did the deal. There had been no bids, reserve was £400stg. I e-mailed the seller, offered the reserve , & the deal was done.

They are not worth a lot YET. I missed an immaculate one, garaged from new, owned by a Titled Lady, low mileage. Went on e-bay for £700 :(

I went off & checked out e-bay, today, 10th July.Back now :lol: There were 2 for sale & 1 for breaking.

1 was an 88 car with 103505 up. not bad condition, by photos. price & moment £ 210 (4 bids, I think)

2nd was 91reg though he said 92. 110000 miles Classified Ad. Asking £749. NO pics, so I wouldn't touch it without view or AA report. Make offer. He'll be lucky ! That price is way out of the ballpark. £300-£350 would be about right.
