My Key!

hi guys,

when i bought my celica last year, the bloke only had one original toyota key, which obviously has the transponder chip inside which deactivates the immobiliser. he did give me a spare, however it's only a bog standard spare which he's gone and got done at his local keycutters, which i guess he only found out when he took it home, would open the doors (when alarm isn't used) and glove box!

so my question is: do i need to go to the toyota dealership and get my key cut into a proper toyota spare (costing £80) or if the worst did happen and i lost my original would i be able to take the spare one the bloke had done, and ask them to cut that onto an original toyota key which has the transponder inside and obviously just spend the £80 when i really had to?

i'm in need of an engine/immobiliser know it all to tell me the facts!

cheers,

ryan

I beleive the way it works is your original key with a transponder is used to set the ECU ready to code a new key with transponder. Without the original key and transponder you can't set the ECU, so therefore you need a new ECU as well a new key already coded to that ECU. Total cost of ECU and new keys is going to come in at just under £900.

Spend the £80 on a new key now...

you can always have you key cloned and cut then you will always have 2 keys because if you lose all your keys you will looking at a bill from toyota for around £1300.

If this does ever happen to any one with a toyota or a lexus drop me a email and i can sort you out with 3 new keys.

1 will be the master key 3 button

1 sub master

1 valet

And with the new master key you can program new keys yourself.

If you need any info email me on
