It seemed quicker when i first drove the test drive car. :)

I'm a bit worried on whether it can handle "highway hills" on 5th gear... B)

Anyway i want to ask you about the traction control.

They said it makes a small noise("crack") whenever i start from full stop and it's caused by the ABS and the traction control "synchronizing".

Is this true or there is something wrong?

No that is true and only happens first time you move it once you start the car. About the highway hills well if you come with a nice balance shouldn't be a problem I managed to climb a very hard one oh 5th gear at 140 km/h and that was about the speed I started with and I managed to leave an Astra GTC behind.

Enjoy your new Auris ;)

I get that noise on mine too - as you described its the ABS pump or similar as you said.

It also happens if you brake and the ABS kicks in. Starting off again after this will cause the noise.

That's a relief!!!

Do you own the 1.4 or 2.0 diesel though?

Since it only has around 30km on it right now :o ...how long does it take until it gets the best power and consumption?

Should i be taking it slow for the first 3-5K Km?

Well right now with a full tank he is making more then 700 km which is wasn't doing in the beginning. It was 620 or so in the first 5000 km or so. I think he can make more kms but I always refuel it once it its the reserve. So consumption improved a lot more and can be better considering my average in the last weeks is around 5.8 to 5.9 l/100

About the power I didn't really notice a big improvement so far at least in acceleration max speed I hit (GPS marks) was 188 km/h and I really didn't notice it only when I checked the GPS I saw it. GPS error is minimum less then 1% so you can take this mark as official off course this could have been while going down in the highway I can't really tell, but normal conditions (car meter) he goes to 180-185 km/h depending but I didn't push him too many times 5 or so not more and he has almost 13 000 kms since May.

I did went slow on him in the first 1000 km rarely went up 120 km/h as the manual advices but after that used it normally. Take in mind that diesel engines take much more time for parts to "make their home" then a gasoline one. I read somewhere that up until 20 000 km parts are still "trying to make their home"

Hope it helps

On my other car Golf IV 1.9TDi 90hp i get around 1000Km with a full tank around 5.5L/100km highway(~120km/h) and city driving and not taking it slow.

I wish i can match this with the Toyota.

Well VW may have a bigger tank and my average in speed is around 60 km/h. You can do such averages of 5.5 I did it before but you cannot go over 120 km/h thats when consumption starts to increase. But as I said it improved with the kms and right now with this last tank I still have enough fuel for another 160 km and I have 600.
