Orange Warning Light

My 2002 old model Avensis 1.8 has covered 86,00 miles. The orange warning light came on so I took it in to the Toyota dealer for the diagnostic test. They told me it needed a new oxygen sensor at a cost of £243 fitted, but it was OK to drive the car until the part was ordered and booked in to be fitted. I had the job done a week later and 3 miles after leaving the dealer, guess what - the warning light came on again.. I went in a few days later for them to remove my audio system for repair (no connection with the warning light situation) and they tested again - same result as before (02 sensor bank 2 sensor 1). 3 miles later - warning light back on. I am now waiting for my audio to come back so I can kill 2 birds with one stone and get the warning light situation sorted. Has anyone had this fault - the car hasn't missed a beat either before the light first came on or in the 1,000 miles or so I've done since.

My 2000 1.8L Avensis has been running with this light on for approximately 14 months now. I have not done anything except have the car MOT'd through local Toyota garage. They stated that emmisions were fine but I should keep an eye on it. I recently had an auto electrician (not Mr T) look at a Battery and alarm related problem and as a 'by the way' he told me that the Lambda sensor (as it is known) was most likely faulty. I can't help feeling slightly annoyed because a so called technicalogical advance has basically failed and caused an unnecessary fault. If there is nothing wrong with the emmissions then why should anyone have to pay £243 for a malfunctioning sensor to be repaired. This guy also told me that he would replace the thing for about £100. MMMMMMMMMMM...............Oh and before any asks, no my fuel efficiency has not changed after the light came on. But if I fail my MOT next month for emmisions I will of course inform this forum and eat my words!
