Diesel D4d Power Problem

Right I have spoken with him and he tells me that he removed the back seat to access the tank. There is a plate bonded in place that had to be prised off; apparently held in place by automotive silicaflex. Under this is the top of the tank that has 14 8mm bolts that seal the float and pick up. Remove this and then remove the two pipes that are fixed in place by jubilee clips and undo the multiplug. Lift off the top and then you pull out the float and at the bottom of thre tank is the 'tea bag'. Wash this out in carb cleaner and refit.

Just make sure you look after the seal and reposition the plate with the correct sealant, silicaflex, the automotive equivalent of silicon sealant.

Hope this helps...I didn't see him do it so I hope I got all the steps in the right order. :D

Just came across your posting, keep it simple for the time being. Work for main agent over on west coast of Ireland, no doubt that it is very possible that you do have a fuelling problem. But diagnostic log carried out with no error codes!!!! We have major problems with bad fuel (illegal tampering by dodgy fuel stations) we drain endless fuel systems & allways change fuel filter. And once tank filled with good quality fuel from main Brand leaders you would be amazed how many cars return to full health, would put it at 90%. Also your throttle pedal is another avenue to persue (but no error code, strange)fly by wire system has simple track system 2 or 3 which throttle moves against, depending on position of pedal alters resistance thus signal to EMU alters engine revs. Mr- T has a habit of using customers cars as guinea pigs without supplying resultant paperwork to prove actual fault. If problem allredy solved, good luck to you.

We ave a 2 litre diesel avensis verso d4d and last night whilst driving at the point the turbo tends to kick in the amber engine warning light came on and we lost power and the car dramatically slowed down pretty much to a stop.

Although the car was still working and engine running etc we had lost complete moving acceleration engine power and even with the accelerator flat to the floor the car barely edged forward :0(

We managed to get it into a side road and switch the car off for 10 mins and upon turning on the engine on the amber engine warning light went off and it got us home fine :0) although we didn't drive over 50 and didn't let the turbo kick in we are understandable worried now.

Coincidently the last full tank we got was a few days ago at a tesco garage :0(

Help would be greatly appreciated :0)

I had exactly the same thing happen to me on the M25 last year - 80Mph lost all power and engine warning light came on. Stopped, started it and all was ok.

Toyota dealer said it's probably the Turbo unit and would cost £1000. I did some research on the web and found a posting where someone had had the same thing and had been recommended to put in FORTE ADVANCED FORMULA DIESEL TREATMENT 44617-FORTE. Got some at www.camskill.co.uk

Put that in and also stopped using supermarket diesel. Car goes like a dream.

A little off topic but an anecdatal for you.

A friend of mine has a 2002 VW passat. Serious loss of power and 2 different VW main dealers said it needed a new turbo. In desperation he took it to a little independent turbo specalist. For half hour labour it was fixed. A seal had gone apparently.

Iv been experimenting with biodiesel, engine died after 3rd tank, left it of for a few minuites, started and engine light went off, slow drive home, changed fuel filter (which was dirty as expected when u start to use biodiesel), car runs perfect now, will continue to use biodiesel. Normal diesel is actually dirt stuff(a lot of research)

point being try changing your fuel filter

Hi all.

I am new to the forum as I have never had an issue with my CDX D4D 2000cc manual for the last two years but SUDDENLY huge problem.

The story goes that i filled my car from Tesco's as usual although this time it was a little lower than normal and took it home and did very little mileage for the next couple of days before leaving it and going on holiday for a couple of weeks. When I returned I found that i suddenly was unable to accelerate past 40mph. As the battery was a little flat I thought it was an electrical problem and replaced the battery and this made no difference so i took it to my local Toyota dealer They took it in and then ran tests that didn’t throw up any codes then literally refused to speak with me for about a week.

I then called on them and they told me that they couldn’t identify the exact problem but suggested they needed to replace the injector pump, common rail and the turbo for £4360 pounds.

Needles to say i declined to take up this kind offer and have booked it into an independent diesel specialist to have a look (going to cost £65 but worth a second opinion I thought) I go next week but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on possible diagnosis. By the way I had difficulty starting it one occasion so was sure it must be fuel related.

Diesel power problem

Hi, i have had the same problem for some time and i been told the same as you along with many other... i have sorted the problem myself. try losening the fuel cap and drive it, this sorted my problem straight away. i'm guessing breather is blocked in the tank somewhere

Toyota Avensis 2L D4D starts in the morning and drive for seven miles no problem, slow down change gear and accelerate, extreme loss of power and black smoke and slight smell of burning Diesel inside the car. Car is with Toyota, so far they haven't found any obvious problems apart from two injectors are slightly on the high side. Any ideas. I am sure when the engine cools down it runs well no problem.

Hi to all,I am from Croatia and my Avensis Verso D4D-20 had a problem couple of months ago,it started vith los of power in moment of gear down and akcelerating, lamp turn on and in service after few minute of inspection sugested me to change turbin, mother ******* wanted me to pay 3000Euro for new one and half pricefor renewed.Next time other service(I am talking about Toyota services),charge me 50Euro for nothing, yust inspecting, could not tell what is wrong but my car is like dead when akcelerating.Third service, enginier specialist from Central service, on tour around ex Yugoslavia, came without touls,(vacum tester for turbine actuator, even I send him mail before and film atached showing my car on diferent ocasions). He sugested change of turbine because rotor is playing a litle inside(radial clearance was about 0.2 and in service book they hawe only aksial clearance mentioned).I was mad because my car engine did not smoke and did not lose any oil, and that is sign of bad turbine.Asked around people and find out that one of them had similar problem with services, and even changes katalizator and after that ,all of injectors, and in the end it was fuel filter, they "forgot to change it on lastfull service. My problem was solved with help of my friends, after many howers of testing electronics and taking parts of electronics for turbine control, vacun electromasgnetic valves, air flow and actuator control valve, from another chrashed car.It ws blady KATALIZATOR.All they had to do is take down two bolts from exaust branch and disconect it from rest of exaust pipes. After doing that went for test drive and find out"MY BABY" is singing again.I took katalizatot down, replace a peace of pipe insted and it is runing without it yust fine,Now I must go for registration and inspection( anual),I cleaned katalizator in some kemikaly and it is as new on.Tomorow I will go in work shop to put it back.I will spend my money on some other thing insted feeding gready service owner.Remember, this engine D4D is state of art, and do not beleive what they tell you in the service, many beasts are houngry of your money,do not beleive them, ask allways for the bill and insist to talk with the man working on your car,ask for changed parts and look if you can are they realy changed. If you have to change some expencieve part make mark on it so you can see if it is changed for real.Good luck

.....same problem on my 2003 d4d.I got the car checked by my local garage, and the mechanic changed the fuel filter and put some additive in the diesel, then raved the engine at over 4000rpm.From the exhaust came a lot of black dirt and smoke, and after 30 min there was no black smoke and no dirt. The fitter said it could be the EGR valve or the Air Flow Meter, and when checked, the EGR valve was blocked by someone, before I bought the car. So,at the moment, the engine is ok.car running as before the trouble started, and I hope it won't let me down.

Since I got the car back from the garage,I changed my driving stile by changing the gears when the raves are between 3000-3500rpm,

I just write about my experience in case it will help someone else.

Spot on mate, you can drive steady but then the car needs a good revving now and then under load by climbing a long hill at speed in lower gears to help clear the s**** out of the EGR and manifold ! Not much good if you live in the flatlands like Lincolnshire though:D.

Regards Pete.

Hi All,

I had previously posted regarding my Avensis Verso D4D which had a P1250 fault code. Reading others' posts it was clear there was no definitive answer. I had tried replacing the boost sensor at £200 (which is what the fault code was pointing too) but to no avail. After this, removing and cleaning or replacing turbos were mentioned, but from other posts this hasn't always worked either.

The thought of spending four figure sums on what was an 8 year old car (52 plate) with no guarantees of solving the problem was too much, and we decided to let it go. We are gutted at this as the car was perfect for what we wanted.

We now have a Corolla Verso, petrol this time, and hopefully this should be problem free. It's ok, but i don't understand why Toyota don't have anything bigger in this country. Are there any plans for this to change?

Anyway, thanks to all for their posts. If anyone wants to get hold of me, please feel free to email.

Cheers
