Corolla Verso Engine Fault Light

Hi All,

I have a 2001 Corolla Verso T-spirit, Automatic, and has FSH with the same garage. Yesterday it had it's annual service and now the engine fault light is coming on. I took it back and they cleared it saying that it was a VVTi fault but nothing found and diagnostic check showed nothing. They told me sometimes it could be gunge in the Vvti that they cleared out??? I drove to work today and the fault light came on after about 5 minutes, so I need to go back with it. Anyone have any ideas on this - I think the garage will just reset it again? I have never had this issue before although the last week or so the engine has been hunting a bit - when i slowed down at roundabouts then accelerated away, I found that the engine sounded like it had popped out of gear. Since the service though, this has not happened - just the light coming on.

Cheers

Tom

Engine light came on again and this time Toyota did further checks and have told me it is the VVTi controller which needs replaced and that this can happen in older cars (DEC 2001!!!!). If this is the legendary Toyota reliability then that's the last one I buy. I wish I just had stereo or cosmetic problems like most of the other posts here>
