Flywheel Replacement Rav 4

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has bought and used the flywheel for sale on the website below. I'm after buying a Rav 4 and needs a new flywheel. It's only 4 weeks out of warranty but Toyota won't cover it

I've checked with Toyota and the part no that they specify is one digit different than this one but I've been assured that the last digit isn't the important one and that's the one that's different. Toyota's Part no is 13450-27021 and the below one is 13450-27022. Can anyone advise me on this? And does anyone know is this stuff really genuine toyota stuff?

Your flywheel is under a special warranty for 5 years or 100,000 miles. You need to go back to your dealer and ask him to contact Toyota Customer Relations for authorisation.

It should cost you nothing as long as there is no evidence of severe misuse.

Regards

Jasper....How many miles has your RAV done. As Anchorman said. Toyota extended the warranty of the D4D DMF to 60K miles or 5 years.(sorry Anchorman I thought it was 60K not 100K)

This is why we ask for more details in the profile.

If this is truly manufactured in Japan then I would feel more comfortable trying one. I have also had instances where 1 digit in the part number has had no adverse effect in the part but there are undoubtably exceptions. I guess you can always return it but the return policy is not specified so check it with the vendor. The other options are a Valeo unit (including clutch) for £695 or Parts King will supply a genuine DMF (I think excludes clutch) for a discounted price.

However, you say that your problem has just been noticed. How have they arrived at this conclusion as we have reports of incorrect diagnosis. It seems a sinister coincidence that the fault has shown up so close to the end of the warranty.

Toyota have confirmed to me in writing that the warranty is pushed out to 5 years or 100k. I asked if they would pro rata it out beyond that but they said no. I still await the full and definitive statement (due on or around the 5th Nov) at which time I will post.

Hi,

Can I just ask, have you bought this RAV or are you just thinking of buying this car, which happens to have a dead flywheel?

You'd only go and buy a T180 or a Hummer or something!

I'm just after buying this rav about 3 weeks ago from garage in uk. Didn't know there was a problem with flywheel at time.Thought there was alot of vibration from it but just thought it was from cold engine on the day. its when i started driving it back to ireland i noticed something not right. between vibration from clutch and making lots of noise . Toyota had done a visual saftey inspection on this rav last may and noticed this problem, and had it written down on a sheet in service book which i only found when i got back home. the reason this job was not done back then is that the warranty had finished 4 weeks previous to this in april. So now i am stuck with this flywheel problem which is a expensive part and clutch kit!

Take it back to the garage and get your money back. It clear was not in a saleable state, with a known fault.

Did you pay the full market value or was it a "bargain"?

In the first case follow Fuj's advice but if there is more to it than that then I would suggest the the Valeo complete flywheel and clutch kit is the best option. If Toyota have washed their hands of you then don't pay their £75 per hour plus VAT rate, take it to a decent local garage and get it done for half the price.

If you are really brave you can do it yourself.
