Reversing Beep On 06 Prius

Can anyone help me turn off this annoying 'safety beep' when reversing in a Prius - it actually helps cause accidents by taking your attention to the front of the vehicle while reversing,

If we must have a beep please make sure its at the rear of the vehicle so can be heard outside rather than at the front inside.

I have tried various combinations of the dash buttons on power up but to no avail.\\

When this beep is going you cant hear pedestrians or vehicles from behind you as its that loud. who ever thought tis was a good idea its the ONLY thing I cant stand about my Prius.

I'm no techie, but I think the answer on a UK car is "you can't", not without cutting a wire behind the dashboard. This information comes from the Prius UK group which you can find here http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Prius-UK. There are guys on the group who can tell you which wire to cut if you're feeling brave!

I cant see how a bleep telling you your in reverse can be called dangerous. As for it distracting you I find this a strange comment. You go into reverse it bleeps, your looking backwards as you drive, whats distracting about that? You will get use to it. Perhaps you prefer the idea that it doesnt bleep and you hit the knob down by accident and the car drives backwards as you look forward, not knowing you are in reverse and hit a pedestrian or parked car behind you ?

However I agree the bleep shopuld (also) be outside.

Oh I should also add I find it very distracting that the steering wheel is in front of me when I want to reverse. Its an accident waiting to happen ;)

Its not thsat it bleeps as you go in to revers its that it bleeps constantly and VERY VERY loudly.

Its easy when reversing you are expected to look behind you but this beep is so loud it places some of your attention to the from of the vehicle where the beep is coming from it also then stops you hearing noises from outside the vehicle - such as oncoming vehicles or pedestrians.. It like trying to read a book while your 14year old is banging a drum-kit beside you.

the sheer volume of this beep is distracting ,and also misleading as you automatically believe that pedestrians outside the vehicle can hear it , if this were to serve any use it should be located at the rear of the vehicle and audible more outside the vehicle than inside.

I have had the beeper removed as suggested by the cutting of the wire mentioned and had one installed in the rear bumper connected to the reversing light and this does the job it was designed to do warning pedestrians and driver that the vehicle is reversing without distracting the driver.
