Auris T180 Problems - Please Help!

I brought a brand new Toyota Auris T180, and collected the car from the dealers on September 14th, 2007.

Within an hour of use it became obvious there were rattles comming from the passenger side dashboard area.

When the sales man called a day or so later he asked if all was well, and I informed him of the issues, but I'd wait and see if with a few miles things settled down.

The noises didnt settle and in fact got worse, so the car went back on the first Saturday appointment available October 13th. I asked the garage not to pull the car apart for the sake of it, but to fix what they could fix. One noise from behind the upper glovebox was reduced by moving a wiring loom.

The noises and rattles are now becoming more annoying and frustrating, and now accompanied by an occasional misfire. I called Toyota World Birmingham on Monday 29th October, and the service manager asked me to give him 48hours to investigate. Still no response! On October 30th, I also called Toyota GB and made them aware of the issues.

Firstly I hope the car gets me to Manchester and back safely over the weekend, and secondly how do I make people be proactive and deal with the situation. It's just so damn annoying and really starting to "do my head in". The car is now six weeks old and only has 900 miles.

I've spoken to Toyota GB once again this morning, and they've been trying to get a response from Toyota World Birmingham without success too!

Once the weekend is out of the way I'll have to decide what my next move should be. I think I may well be taking professional advise though. The car has emptied my bank accounts, so I can't afford any expensive mistakes.

I would contact the dealer principle AND service manager, in writing, and ask what is being done about it, that way you will start a file for future reference should you need to refer back. It is annoying when people say they will ring back and they dont, they dont deserve the job if that is their attitude! Keep pushing your dealer for a result, and follow everything up in writing, usually the DP will have you sorted if he can feel a complaint coming on!

Hello, I also have that irritating rattle on the passenger side of my car which I will report second time in a second service shop. On the first they managed to solve it but only for a few kms car as now almost 13000 km when they did this he had around 10000 or less. By that time my main concern was an alarm issue which I explained before and that the service of the dealer where I bought the car couldn't solve. First it was badly installed and then they couldn't fix it. To make it worse several months passed and they never called me so I decided to go to the HQ service shop in Lisbon and they solve those 2 problems in a day but I guess this is serious problem and I'm starting to think that it gets worse with time because now it makes even on smooth roads.

15000 km service is nearby and I hope this 3rd service shop solves it for good. I'm confident on this ones because I had to use them before because of some scratches I made on my door and they were all very nice, committed and informed of every detail. As so I hope they can solve this.

I would as mentioned put something in writing and record any correspondence you have with them.

That said, just simply keep on at them and ask for the car to be booked in and returned fault free. Be persistent but dont be angry. At the end of the day they are humans too and they are the guys that are going to fix your car. How you play the relationship determines how willing they are to help you get it fixed quickly. I would say to them to keep it for a while even a week providing they could give you a T-Spirit Auris or T-Spirit avensis as a courtesy car minimum. The rattles can be fixed but if you think your car is misfiring then that needs more attention.

What fuel to you use in it?

I use Shell Diesel, and it either comes from Shell Moorcroft in Streetly, or Shell Four Oaks. With my Focus TDCi that I owned before you could tell the difference between Tesco and Shell, so I've always stuck to Shell Diesel Extra.

An annoying rattle in diseasel car; whatever next? ;)

Seriously, the advice that others have given about corresponding in writing with the dealership is good. Follow that and you can't go far wrong.

Hi everybody, I thought it was only fair to update you all on how things stand at the moment.

My car was booked in to Toyota World Birmingham for two days, November 8th, and 9th, to have the various "dashboard rattles" looked at.

I'm pleased to report that on my journey home from the garage last night, and my running around in the car today, all is quiet. I hope to undertake a decent local journey over varying roads to see if all remains well.

Fingers crossed that the Master Technician at Toyota World Birmingham has worked his magic and now is all well. If so I look forward to many happy miles behind the wheel of my Auris T180.

p.s. I had a Yaris 1.0 T2 as a courtesy car. I have to say how nippy and agile was this little car. for a 1.0 litre it's amazing.

My "drivers side" remains peaceful and quiet, only the passengerside dashboard area was problematic for me.

The "A Pillar" was padded with felt, and the small part of the dashboard that has the vents to direct air on to the smal front quarter windows also recieved the same treatment.

Well one month on after my last dealership visit, the "A Pillar" remains reasonably silent, and all the other rattles are back, along with a new one, from between the front and rear doors on the drivers side.

Oh, and I now have squeaky breaks as the car comes to its final part of braking as you only brake lightly at that final stage.

I still cannot believe that Toyota build quality has fallen so far behind the competition. My 2004 Ford Focus is currently rattle free, and at new was built to a far higher standard.

I'm back to my Toyota Dealer on Saturday.

Just have to say when I was looking to buy a Yaris, I went to Toyota World in Birmingham, and the service was shoddy then. It took them all their time to come over and acknowledge me. The 2nd hand Yaris's standing outside had not been valeted properly.

Its the small details that let them down. I went to Charles Clark in Wolverhampton (bit of trek) but it was worth it. Best service I've had off a local Toyota dealer and I went to loads around Birmingham!

Hope your Auris is ok ;)

I can recommend Toyota Brooklyn at Worcester for sales and service. Well worth the drive...

Well my Auris is now with Toyota World for further investigation. The Master Technician came for a test drive with me on Saturday morning, and was able to confirm that the problems I had listed, the various rattles, the squeeky brakes, and clutch pedal. It's just nice to know that the guy who is working on your car is able to acknowledge that they do exist.

Once again I have a great little red Yaris T2, and they really are a cracking little car, oh and it doesn't rattle at all on the roads around here. Even with three of us in it, and the results of a big christmas shopping session spread around the car, the little engine was so willing to just do its best. When you think about it I could of probably had two of these excellent little cars for the price of my Auris!

Well after a week's stay at my Toyota Dealer, I have collected my Auris T180 this morning.

Many of the dashboard Joints, and Centre Console joints have been packed with an adhesive backed felt. You can see that it's been packed out, and not original, but hopefully the garage have tried their best.

Well, have they fixed the rattles and squeaks..... well some of them... This simply is not good enough, and neither are bits of sticky backed felt sticking out on to the windscreen and small "A Pillar" window!

I'm sorry but Toytota build quality is simply pants...

Andy.

Hope you have a rattle free New Year.

You could always trim the excess felt with a sharp scalpel and some patience.

I might do something about my rattles though they are not annoying me enough at present, with the exception of the roof lining above my right ear.

Many thanks for your kind wishes mate.

The rattle that is right by your right ear also featured on my car... and you'll be pleased to know it's one of the rattles that they can fix.

Yesteday I wrote my letter to the dealership that will be sent recorded delivery tomorrow. I do fear that this route is going to cost me some money, but it has to be done now, as the whole saga is just "doing my head in".

I think I may also have that rattle type noise - sounds to me like a geiger counter/clicking? - appears to be either be from the "A" frame area or the roof lining - can you be any more specific about what/where the problem is and what they did to fix the problem?

It seems that plentiful application of adhesive backed felt pads is the preferred fix... Only I'm not convinced it's a fix, more a temporary patch to keep the customer at bay. I have to admit that my trim doesn't rattle so much now, it vibrates instead, rattles and squeaks occasionally!
