Leak From The Bottom Of The Car

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello.

My Aygo - registered April 2006 currently appears it could have a problem. There is a patch of what looks like clear liquid close to the drivers front wheel. On checking the underside of the car it is also wet near a casing (with a black 'stop cap' - the casing is metal and the colour of the car body) close to the drivers wheel.

Does anyone know what this part of the car is and what the problem could be and how easily it is sorted out?

Thanks,

Yorkshire Terriers

Hello and welcome to TOC

Difficult to diagnose that from your description..................It would be a good idea to take it back to your Toyota dealer as you have a 3 year warranty.

I am sure that some Aygo "Guru's" may soon be along to offer advice.

Couldn't you post a picture of said "Casing"??? What color is your car?

could it be a leaking shock absorber?

Have you got Air Con? Could it be the drain from that??? (if you have been using it of course)

No air con on the car and on further examination the patch looks like a oil substance, so perhaps the thought that it could be the shock ab. appears to be a good analysis of root cause for this issue.

Apologies for the quality of the photo but i have uploaded the 'casing' here > http://www.thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk/aygo_photo1.JPG.

Thanks for the help.

That looks like the shock absorber.........................If it is leaking you should be able to get it changed under warranty.

HINT: Shock absorbers are usually changed in pairs.............your Toyota dealer may not be keen to change both of them (Left/Right)under warranty, but depending on mileage covered it would be a good idea to change as a matched pair.

Take it back and see what the dealer says

You’re not joking, I’m none the wiser!

The pic is very poor but it just looks like a body grommet to me.

Are you sure it is oil and not just dirty water leaking out?

If it is a body grommet in a chassis box section i would say it is definately just water that has gotten into the box section...completely normal :)

If the damper is leaking get it to the dealers, they will fit a new one under warranty. In fact take it to the dealers anyway, they will check it and let you know.

No change there then :D

There are water drainage channels in the bottom corners of the doors. Pour water down the gap for the side window & you'll see. It looks like it's coming from the engine bay, but it is not.

Thats right but the pic he has posted is under the car, not doors. :)
