Hello,

I got my aygo with a strange thing in the middle of dash board. I think that might be a cradle for standart TomTom GO 500 navigation system. Do you think it'll work if I buy a GO 500 system and plug it in?

Can you get a real close up photo of the plug

It looks more like a mobile/cellphone plug to me

Definately a dock for the previous series of TomTom Go...

The 300, 500 and 700 will fit, the newer x10-models will not;

they have a totally different kind of connector and less functionality.

If this dock is hooked up properly it will play the Nav-voice over

the front Speakers and if turn on the function the diplay will switch

to night-mode when you turn on your lights.

As close as it gets :)

Cool! Thanks!

So, I just buy TomTom GO 300/500/700, say, on the eBay, plug it in this cradle and the magic should happen? Do those devices support new map upload? Can I get maps for my area or any other that is not in device memory?

If this dock is hooked up properly it will play the Nav-voice over

the front speakers and if turn on the function the diplay will switch

to night-mode when you turn on your lights.

Wow! I definitely want one of those!

But how do I know it's hooked up properly? Is there any other way than just plug it in and see if it's works?

And thanks a lot for info.

Cheers!

I actually built a similar dock into a frinds' car, that's why I recognised it...

What I meant concerning being hooked up properly: the TomTom only fits one way

(hook it over the front ledge, then snap the back down and it's done (press the button

on the TomTom to release again), but underneath there's an array of wiring that has

to be connected. As some radio's do not support alle these features ad some people

do not like some functions, some things might not be hooked up...

If I were you I'd find someone with a suitable TomTom to see if

the dock still works (probably does) before buying one yourself.

AFAIK the older TomToms maps CAN be upgraded and/or

new ones installed with use of an SD-card slot on the bottom.

Since the older (fitting) models have been off market for about a year

allready chances are you can find one second hand for a decent price.

If you have a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone I'd go for a 500 or 700,

as they both can be used a a bluetooth Carkit as well, even with dialing a

number through the touch screen of the TomTom if you phone supports this!

Thanks a bunch! You helped a lot.

There is one GO 500 unit for sale in my area and I'll just give it a try.

Phone might not support dialing from TomTom? I'm going to get myself a new phone soon, do you think latest Nokia and Motorola will work?

I believe there's a list on TomTom's site concerning compatibility.

Newer phone's will not guarantee better compatibility due to

newer and stricter protocols which might have been used...

For instance my Sony Ericsson Z600 will work fine with my friend's

500Go, but my much newer Z520i often looses connection...
