Dear all

I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new Rav 4 D4D XT3 (slate blue), hopefully within the next few weeks.

I need to pick a few brains and this seems to be the place to find them. :help:

1. I need to fit a dog guard and like the look of the genuine toyota one. Not keen on paying the full dealer price as from what I understand there would be no change from £200. Been looking on eBay with no luck so far. Does the guard for the earlier model fit the new model??

2. Also would quite like a set of waterproof seat covers does anyone have a recommendation for covers that fit well and that are not going to break the bank.

Thanks for the replies in advance  and I will try to post some picks once she's home.

Cheers

Dave

I will check if I have anything in the dog guard department......will let you know

Most manufacturers have moved away from any type of seat covers these days, usually because the interfere with side air bags, so you may struggle to find some

Use to own a rav 4 plus a rotti dog, i simple bought a roof to floor adjustable dog gaurd, as the rear seats of the rav are more or less upright a normal dog gaurd will fit snug and take no room up in the rear, i would not splash out on the toyota dog guard when a normal cheap upright ones are available for around £20/25 plus it can be used in another vehicle should you wish to change.

The one i have has gone into the rav4/avensis T spirit/landcruiser and very soon going into a T180 avensis tourer, "me thinks" good value so far.

Just had a thought regarding seat covers, i bought a rear seat "waterproof" dog cover from B&Ms near blackpool costing about a tenner it has the slots for seat belt fittings designed into it if needed and it has good clips and straps located on one edge that will fix to the rear head rest.

I am sorry but this cover i required is only available for rear seats, due to the fabric of this cover the only drawback is this cover can slip if a dog is sat on it or if grocery bags are placed on it, it will slide forward if one brakes heavy.

Good for you choosing a RAV. Can't say anything about the dogguard other than get a tow hook fitted with a bungee rope......

As per seat covers, my local friendly accessory shop sells seat covers in black ( a la Ford) for a quite cheap price. I assume they are gettable anywhere - not that pretty but work.

Or get yourselves boiler suits and treat them with a waterproof spray so when you wet yourselfs, it won't stain the seat....

My RAV4 '94 seats lasted 12 years until I had to replace the front seats as the spongey cushion stuff had powderfied. The rear seats are still as good as new.

Good luck and happy driving

Welcome to the club. Another Scot on the team! I don't know what you lot are up to buying RAVs like they're going out of fashion. I think you must have struck up a deal with the !Removed! and are getting them in exchange for haggis or something.

Now I must warn you about Bothy. He is absolutely out and out, stark raving bonkers and guess what? He is your neighbour and will pop round shortly for tea! You can run and you can hide but he will find you and when he does he will "initiate" you. All I can advise you is to shut your eyes and think of lochs and glens. The good side of being initiated is that you might learn to understand him and then you can be our official bothy interpreter because for the most part we simply haven't got a clue. He is in the final stages of building an upgraded underwater space shuttle from a mark 1 RAV as far as I can understand. All I know is that it harnesses more power than an eruption of Mt St Helens and he has bought enough turbos, intercoolers and other engine upgrade bits from our resident parts expert, Kingo to sink a rather large supertanker. The last time he kicked it up it consumed so much oxygen that a fair proportion of the population of Glasgow turned purple in their struggle to compete. Maybe he will use it to visit you and then you can describe it to us because getting to see a photo of it is seemingly less likely than getting Macca to agree that half his dosh and a Scottish Island isn't a bad deal for one roll around the carpet.

I do hope I haven't detered you too much or made even the slightest glimmer of regret in your pending investment but be sure to remember what I said about the lochs and glens. He's really a nice guy and we think the world of him although that might not occur to you during initiation. However you will emerge a stronger person with a true sense of accomplishment. Your faithful mutt will be invited to sit in the front on your uncovered front seats and even lick the inside of your windscreen and radio display.

Now down to the less serious matter of your new XT3 in Slate Blue (superb choice of colour if I may say).

Just in case bothy doesn't have the described effect or you manage to temporarily escape the inevitable, I think you need to wait for Kingo on this one. He will scour the planet to find you a suitable dog gaurd. He has also hit the nail on the head with the seat covers and you really must not cover the front seats as they contain part of the side airbag system. However, I think the seat covers are replaceable as a seperate item so maybe Kingo could look into that or you could just cover the base when you are going to get them wet. The seat belt and airbag system is very sophisticated (more so on yours than mine but we won't go into that sore point at the moment) and for example even the power of the bags is adjusted by sensors in the seat runners - the further you are away the more powerful they become. The bottom line is don't let anything interfere with it. Good luck and enjoy your new car.

Bothy

I think your outragous suggestion of a bungy cable for a poor defensless creature is absolutely unnecessary if you don't mind..............

.............a tow rope is more than adequate I reckon

Hi Dave,

And welcome from a fellow newbie.

I am a new owner of an XT5 and have made great use of these forums already.

I also have made good use of eBay buying a genuine dog guard for £15 ! and a boot liner, reversing camera etc. etc. :)

An I bet yuv tried it yersel - running aifter yur RAV oan a tow rope...??? Bungee is far more fun.

An anither thing - whit is it wi ra English that cannae spell guard? Gaurd is wot the French grow in the gardens init?

By the way, wit nail needs hittin oan the head - ah stripped ma RAV an never came across a nail onywhere. A've jist stripped the door aff ma caravan an it disnae hae a nail either. Must be the ony caravan wi a 6KW Genny an 3000watts oa metal halide lighting....lights are oan a 10m mast which makes it fckn difficult negotiating overhead road lighting wires! Work that wan oot!!??

In the Queens speech (English) the word defenceless was used. Is that the same meaning as the word used jist above?? (defensless) (Derbyshire speak?)

Learning aw ra time here ye ken. :P :P :P :P

Thanks for all the advice boys, even though some members have gone off on a tangent that I can't keep up with.

There does seem to be some nutters on this forum!! - not speaking about anyone in particular!!

Still think I need the seat covers though there seems to be ones which have velcro sides for side airbags - anyone got any that they would recommend?

Thanks for the words on the dog guard - not sure about those cheap and cheerful ones though. I need to carry a lot of s**t in the back of my car for work so was planing to make a frame fixed to the dog guard so that I could make a false parcel shelf. The end result giving room to carry 2/3 boxes below the new parcel shelf and then have room for stuff on top. Does that explanation make sense?

Any thoughts/ideas?

In trying tae be helpful, I cuid ask ma mithers nursing home fur a few nappies/incontingency pads that use velcro.....then ye jist fit them whenever ye need an throw em away when used. If yer a green freak, ye cuid recycle em.
