Didnt know you could get a 'turbo kit' thought you needed an engine/loom change...

Want a turbine then buy one!

I feel it'll probably work out cheaper to drop a 3SGTE in rather than a off the shelf turbo. You'll also find the car would probably run better with an engine designed to take a turbo. If you get the bolt on one there are a lot of 'hidden' cost you need to consider - New fuel pump, new injectors, intercooler, charcoal canister (i think), dumpvalve etc ...... and then you'll probably need a secondary ecu to cope with it all and pay to get it all mapped. Something to think about....

saying all this i am a little biast -

Transplant

Hope this helps in some way,

Matt

It was £3525 for everything, the Rev2 turbo engine and ancilaries, the paint job, the labour and the VAT. He drove it in on a monday, and picked it up the following Saturday.

More info here -

Toyota Didn't release the turbo model in the UK, so the only MR2 turbo you will find in the UK will be an import - Sorry.

also a bolt on turbo would only be able to run low pressures on an NA engine.

So you'd have a large outlay for a turbo engine running 7 psi ..

It would be easier it make sure the rest of your car is in mint condition and then drop it off to have a new engine popped in.

Matt - do you also replace the clutch etc?

You have to put a whole new gear box, drive shafts and clutch in, the turbo gearbox is quite different to the one on an N/A. But thats included as part of the transplant bundle.

Sounds like an ideal solution .. it's not "something different" from everyone else .. but when having "something different" costs more and performs less I can't see the point.

I'd either go throttle boddies and Nitro .. or get the car to Revision6 for a week.

the latter is the obvious choice - and look how pretty it can look,

we went for the 'Red Sun Rising' theme - work quite well me thinks.

Were looking in to the possibility of offering such a service -

We think we can get all the required componants off the engine whilst its still bolted in, which will bring the labour costs down dramatically. We have proven it on a rev1/2 engine (need to try on a rev3), we have to remove the rear axle to be able to remove get to the inlet manifold, which is a pain but easier than dropping the whole lot. Then its a case of cleaning, degreasing, and splashing a bit of paint here and there. I think the hole job should take about 5-6 days depending on the paint job. Were looking at offering this service in the new year and charging about £500+VAT. If anyones interested let me know and i'll put a list of names together.

I think in all fairness, the only economical way to get a turbo is to sell your N/A and buy a turbo Car instead. Once you've paid for the engine transplant etc. you will have spend a small fortune on the car, and you won't have incresed its value. Insurance on a highly modified car such as this would be much more than you would pay on a turbo. Insurance companies really don't like mods like this (I know cos we've come up with some outrageous quotes!!). Sorry to sound a bit negative, but I think that it would be a sensble option once you've weighed up all the cost involved in a transplant.

I think you should manufacture some oil cap's that are on par with the TRD one's. They wouldn't look outa place on that setup.

Obviously selling them for less than the TRD stuff :D
