thanx for your quick replies peeps,

am only looking to spend between 9 and 10k, looking for a 2003 poss 2004, 5 door diesel powered, xt3, dont want leather interior unless its got heated seats (lol got that now so somewhat spoiled), and have a 2005 smart forfour brabus for sale or part exchange. This isnt something I am looking to do in a hurry, as we have had a lot of cars in the past 18 years, the last one being the brabus and more recently my partner sold his twin turbo supra. I have been researching diesel 4wd's for a few weeks now and cant find many peeps knock the rav4, and after all its a Toyota, which ses it all. The rav4 which we WILL get has got to last us a looooooooong time, so needs to be the right one for the right price and somewhat more economical than the brabus (which is a high insurance group and runs on superunleaded petrol aaaaarggggggh) hence no rush, once again cheers peeps :)

Jan

ps bothwell buyer (or can i call you bothy :)

i have no idea what you mean by the dual mass flywheel version, could you elaborate or simplify, whichever you think will be the easiest for me to get my head around lol

Hurraw there. If ye scan this forum for dual mass flywheels, ye'll find that a certain vintage RAV had/has problems with a dual mass flywheel falling apart. This is a problem I think on one of the avensis range as well but can't remember. (It happens on some Vauxhalls as weel) As I don't have a car young enuf fur dual mass flywheels, then folk like anchorman and Parts-King'll keep ye richt o'er that.

Hi Pinkee, welcome to our mad forum. Dont let the flywheel issue put you off what is otherwise

a great car. If you are looking find out if the DMF has been done. If not buy one with a warranty,

or check out the petrol models. They dont have the DMF so it wont be an issue, and with the way

fuel prices are going up, dependant on your mileage it may not be that much more expensive to

run anyway. ;)

sorry - I should have added that my RAV 1994 has more than 160,000 miles on the meter and has done really well as its been thrashed by 3 learner drivers; and myself using it to haul Jaguar XJS and the likes around the UK.

I'll never part with the car - the best ever. Listen to Dave M and check out the flywheel part and its warranty. Parts king should help you along wi that as well.

cheersies, actually im not that easily put off, but i guess i need to do some homework on the petrol vs diesel savings.........whatever i get its bound to be more economical than running a car on superunleaded fuel lol :)

i automatically assumed that a diesel powered car will be more economical than a petrol powered one as you get more miles to the gallon even with diesel being more expensive than petrol :)

strangely, since I decided a rav4 is the ideal car for our family people everywhere are driving them deliberately where I am and teasing me with their rav's lol

It really depends on the mileage you do, I guess 10k miles / year is the break even point when it's petrol v's diesel, if you factor in higher purchase cost, slightly more expensive fuel v's increased mpg.

If you do less than 10k a year find a nice petrol RAV and enjoy

Oh, and it is amazing just how many RAV's you see on the road when you start to look for them :yahoo:

I don't know much about the recent RAV engines but the Mk1 petrol was certainly no slouch and I surprised many folk at its speed. Then again I wasn't afraid to take the REVs up to 5000+

Looking forward to getting the machine back with the 3SGTE in as I believe it revs up around 8000.

I remember having a Volkswagon Caravanette 1200 which punched a piston through the block cos I took it up to 60mph!! Swapped the engine by removing 4 bolts and stuck a 1300 in .... thems was the days!! It literally rolled into the back end!

If I were you, I'd take one for a test drive before you write it off.

It will not feel the same has your present car but them again it's several times bigger :D

thats true, its a total change of the type of car too............i guess i will have to learn that i cant nip out into any gap in the traffic, hehe but liewise no-one is gonna cut me up again cos they think im driving a slug, when im not.........i might be driving a slug, but it will be a BIG slug!!!

i do love the look of em, and am quite excited about taking one out....hope it lives up to my expectations as i am a really fussy sod when it comes to cars..........rattles being my biggest bugbear.....they really do me head in lol
