Chipping - Does It Affect Warranty And/or Insurance?

I noticed that lindop motors are offering TMC power boost chip sets for £395 for all Toyota D-4Dengines , giving at least 20% more power.

How much do they charge to fit it, or is it very easy with a set of instuctions provided?

(I am a first time diesel owner, and a very reluctant mechanic).

Does fitting one to an 18 month old motor invalidate the warranty?

How much does it put on the insurance?

I do not know if it would invalidate your warranty but I do know that your insurance premium will increase by how much I do not know ? it may be a case that you will have to go a specialist insurance company as your insurance company may not want to cover the risk.

I have seen it said in another thread don't tell your insurance company that you have done it (nudge nudge wink wink) but that means you are driving around in an uninsured car ! Insurance companies don't need any help to refuse to pay a claim out.

If you think about it insurance groups are worked out on the speed and torque of the vehicle ,how much it costs to repair a vehicle that's why a 1-6 Verso costs less to insure than a Verso T180.

I am sure parts king if he posts on this thread will confirm this ! he works for a main dealer and he would not encourage anybody not to inform there insurance company

I am in know way suggesting you would have done this as you are taking the time and trouble to ask these questions before you buy

I know my post sounds like I am a bit of a killjoy but with insurance you do not take any chances

As regarding fitting I believe there were some photos on a thread in the rav forum of how to fit I don't think it is a major job

Thanks for taking the time out to reply, I will check with the insurance company first, but it looks like I will wait until 3 year warranty is up before chipping my vehicle.

Please post back when you have spoken to your insurance company I am sure a lot of people would like to know the outcome and perhaps it will help clear this up

I did ask on a previous thread from somebody who had the chip installed if his insurance company was okay with it but he did not post a reply .

If after checking with your insurance company and if they have no problem with it you could contact Toyota in writing and ask them if it would invalidate your warranty

Sorry I missed this thread but I have emailed the original poster

All insurance companies have different policies, you will have to speak to your own company to determine theirs.

As with all non genuine engine mods, the manufacturer would quote non approved componants fitted and not cover it by warranty, however the chip kit we use is TUV approved, has a two year manufacturers warranty, and if it ever does go faulty, you can just unplug it to go back to normal mode, very easy to do too

Kingo

Insurance companies take many things in to account when deciding what and if any extra premium is payable ---your age, your claims record , how long you have been insured with the company ,the increase in bhp.

These details are then passed on to an underwriter who will decide whether to still except the risk or what charge will apply to there policy's . They apply this charge by loading a policy at say 10%,20%or 30% of the premium

I believe Adrian Flux and Norwich Union are two companies who may except this type of business from modified cars but most of the big companies just want motor business from customers that fit a certain profile
