Hi All,

I have a '98 Avensis 1.8 GS with an original alarm fitted. Over the past few weeks the alarm has started going off on it own from time to time. anyone got any idea what might be causing this or does anyone know how to disable the alarm completely? I can lock the car manualy with the key but I would like to be able to use the remote locking without activating the alarm.

It could also be your Battery on its way out, if the voltage drops it can trigger the alarm, also Mr T told me to take out coins from the car, and that worked.

How has the above gone. Thinks you'll find most early mk1 avensis's have electrical problems with the alarm being just one of them.

I have dis connected the siren - very easy the big black wire goes along the drivers wing and I just removed it at the connector. fob locking still works and everything else seems in order bar the normal other issues. Only specific problem with this is that the door open reminder is silenced also.

It will be the alarm unit behind the headlight. The internal Battery terminals corrode away and bugger it up. disconnect it and you'll be fine.

I replaced the car Battery as it was on it's way out anyway and all seems fine now. Will keep you posted if I have any other problems
