Knockin At 3500revs

Hi all, this is my first post so sorry if its one asked a lot but i cant find it anywhere,

i drive a 140 celica yr2000, super high mileage (143k) it all seems good condition, i'v been keeping a close eye on the oil as have read others problems with that, but i seem to get a knockin noise from the engine at about 3500revs mainly in 3rd gear.

any ideas what it could be?

also i v rarely rev my engine any harder then about 4500revs before changing gear, is this good or bad for the engine?

If it is that, its an Engine out job, so already quite expensive (£1k +, depending on where you go)... I'd get it properly diagnosed before you start to panic though.

If you were constantly in the 6.5k RPM mark then you're going to be unduely stressing the engine, 4.5k is closer to normal operating, and only 0.5k RPM since the VVT kicked in! I think you can quite safely wait till 5.5k or higher before you change gear (assuming you're engine is all ok, obviously - get it checked out first!!), and you can then enjoy the engine a little more... They'll happily take a good thrashing every once in a while once they've warmed up a bit!

Does it do it all the time or just when you put your foot down?

just when i speed up, even just regular acceleration makes an unpleasent sound, not tlkin about foot to the floor stuff

I would get it checked out, could turn out to be something else(heat shield etc),a good mechanic should be able to listen to your engine and tell you if its bottom end knock or not.
