Celica 6th Gen Abs Problems

Hi,

i have a Celica 1994 M reg and have problems with ABS.

i've got a friend of mine doing the work for me but we are still a bit unsure of what to do.

i looked through your abs stuff on the sticky post for the corolla (As it says it's the same as the celica) but my friend says my celica has 1 fuse box and the corolla has 2 or the other way around(if this makes any sense).

so can anyone give me a clear discription on how to find out the flash codes on my car?

any help would be spot on as my car failed MOT on this problem and has been off the road for 4 weeks, life sucks without my pride and joy :(

you use the diagnostics port inside engine bay , just near the Battery but back towards the bulkhead. its got the word "DIAGNOSTICS" on the top to guide you . ;)

check the codes, turn on the ignition, remove the short pin from the ABS check connector and use a jumper to connect terminals Tc and E1.

this will give you the codes . the abs fuse is contained in the long fusebox near the Battery . FUSE F17

Sweet mate,

just done it but rather not have done now me thinks,

it's coming up with codes

35 — Open in left front or right rear wheel speed sensor (WSS) circuit.

36 — Open in right front or left rear WSS circuit.

doesn't sound good.

Will have to do the WSS test now i guess, just got a price for 1 sensor £120 + VAT thats £500 on top of the £400 i've already paid to get it back on the road :(

does this mean the sensors have had it or not? don't want to spend all that money if it could be something else

have you tried resetting the abs module by pressing the brake 8 times or so within 3 seconds???

alot of error codes are related , so dont get disheartened just yet , steam clean the surrounding area of the sensor , both sides , also check the wiring from the sensor upto the multiplug inside the wing liner for damage or any signs of wear n tear . A cheap fix is a snapped wire , you never know.

what i did was get a 2nd hand unit and chop off the multi plug , join the 2 wires together , run the diagnostics test again on the fronts using this multi plug joined , i then got 1 dud sensor which was the 1 that was %$(ed. 120 plus vat is expensive also . i paid close to 90 quid for 1 all in .

whoa !!! , dont think it needs 4 cos the fault codes say so , alot of codes are related , it could be 1 sensor failing makes another show up as a fault code . personally id stick to the fronts being at fault , as the rears are pretty much sealed inside the rear hubs.

best way to find out is slam on the brakes at 50 mph preferebly in the wet and somewhere safe. which ever wheel then locks up and skids is the wheel sensor at fault.
