Hello! I'm from the USA first of all :P and I have recently bought a 1992 Toyota Corolla AE91 w/ 1.6L. The car has 164K miles and I bought for $550 american. The first thing I had to do is replace the rear drivers strut. The old one is pictured below.

The car itself looks fairly decent.

As well as the interior.

The rust is pretty bad in a few places.

And I need a new door.

Finally, the engine (air box removed to install after market intake)

The car runs amazing though and I plan on doing a full synthetic fluid change, tranny and oil filters, gas filter, I bought all new shoes and pads for brakes, and I have a aftermarket intake coming in the mail. The timing belt was said to be changed less than 1k miles ago. I'm going to buy a used door, paint the whole car silver, and put on new tires which I found for $25 each. Tires

I was also wondering if the 4A-GE engine would fit in this car. I might hardcore about the little rolla but I'm not sure if I want to buy a newer one to start modding.

Any suggestions on matience, mods, or the ugly rust? I would also like to get a service manual PDF style if anyone has one, I'd pay $5 for it via paypal.

thats pretty cool, rather than fixing the bodywork and painting it you should shove a 3sgte in it and use it as a street sleeper (though definately get the door, that could take someones leg of), only kidding (though not really, i love rusty street sleepers, ever since my astra)

you will definately be able to get a 4age in there, not sure how much work but it will go, and with the body cleaned up a decent set of wheels and a suspension drop, you will have created yet another cool american corolla sedan

good luck

I was thinking about the same thing, I however would like to get a nice rust converter to stop the rust from taking over (or roofing tar) and use aluminum tape to mask some areas and paint over. It however has the 4A-FE engine with a 3 speed transmission :( If at all I would like to put a 5 speed in because 0-60 sucks at 23 seconds. I have a induction intake coming in the mail, ceramic brake pads, LEDs (dash, etc) and a chrome cover for the gauges. I might get the intake bored and get a bigger butterfly valve but I'd like to see what a better trans will do first.

Any ideas on which 5 speeds will bolt up?
