Anyone else had this happen. At about 2000 rpm if your hand is on the gearstick in 3rd gear you get a distinct vibration.Does not happen in any other gear.Car has done 500 miles and is perfect in every other respect.Maybe being a bit fussy.

Im also driving the 2.0 manual but don't have the vibration issue you mention.. I think you should visit your dealer to have it looken into. Maybe it's nothing, maybe you are wearing out your gearbox.. ;)

What do you think of engine noise in the 2.0 ? At first (the first 2000km) it was actually quite but now it really makes a loud rattle between 1600-2200rpm

I think the engine noise a little harsh actually.Harsh that is compared to my last corolla 1.4d which was amazing. However put it next to a ford or vauxhall and it is much quieter.Still really like the car though.

aparently the auris is very restricted, alot of power is lost in the standard cat and exhaust. this was said to me by a exhausts systems specialist, he said unlike most cars the auris has a huge silencer or something..

iv got my backbox and mid pipe changed, iv done about 200 miles with it and it feels like theres alot more torque

sorry this has nothing to do with the topic but i thought id let you know

Thanks for the input guys.I am aware that it could probably perform better with various tweaks but this is not an issue for us.We bought the Auris because of the usual reasons.Legendary reliability brand wise,a good deal offered, and the mpg offered as my wife travels about 15k a year.So far not as good as the 1.4d4d it has replaced but I think the extra performance compensates for that. The reliability, well time will tell but talking to a guy I know who has just started working at the engine plant in deeside he tells me one defect in 10000 is considered unacceptable.

Now for all of us who are used to the high costs of toyota parts get this. This same chap is at the moment working on cranks.Measuring tolerances etc.If they have to scrap one the cost is.....£7.20.If a block complete with liners is scrapped the cost is £18.00.Second hand info I know but very interesting.

I bought a 2.0 D4D 126HP Toyota Auris two moths ago in Barcelona, where I am living.

I also have vibration problems with the gearstick.

When the motor is running between 2.000rpm and 2.200rpm the gearsticks vibrates (front window and middle mirror as well). It is not a big problem but it disturbs me considering it is a brand new car.

The car was at the dealer for 10 days and they answered they are not able to repare the problem.

I have complained to Toyota customer Service in Spain (phone calls, emails, faxes) but they told me it is not a problem for all the cars and that´s all. It´s very frustrating.

I would beg you to e-mail Toyota UK telling your problem because if all the people who are dealing with this problem tells them, then they would look into this matter. The dealer told me that nobody else from another countris has complained.

Regards,

Albert

By "front window and middle mirror as well" do you mean that the whole car vibrates?

OK, if the mirror vibrates it does not mean that the mirror has a defect it means that the mirror shows a defect (It has been already changed for a brandnew one). Vibration is detected everywhere inside the car, gearstick, mirror, windows, floor, clutch... everywhere.

It seems like a problem of motor silentblocks. Motor vibration is normal, but this vibration is not properly isolated.

I have tested the Auris diesel 90HP at the dealer and vibration is quite lower.

I have the same problem with my Auris in Sweden. Any news from Toyota how they handle this? Not that I see it as a huge problem, not yet anyway.

After four months complaining to Toyota Spain they told me they accept that the problem exists and that at the moment the Technical Department is studying this matter.

The best thing we can do is keep on complaining to Toyota customer service because they will react only if they detect more people having the same problem.

I also complain to toyota europe:

I find amazing this could happen with a brand new car...

My Auris registered in June 07 has now completed 14,000 miles and have not found this to be a problem yet. But will keep an eye open

Hi,

Not sure if that is related to your issue but I taken my car back to dealer (noisy brakes) and they said I need new gearbox too (!!!). They were not sure what was the problem as they replaced it without looking into it (selector issue probably). The third gear is a bit notchy now and vibrates. Didn't feel that with the "old" gearbox.

Wow first time I read this topic and this problems are a little bit more serious then the ones that have been reported, like brake noises and dashboard rattles.

I have a 1.4 D4D as far as I can say I don't have these vibration issues unless the ones you are referring are really low but I think they must be really high and annoying otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about them. I saw something similar (at least I think it might be similar) and my friends Audi A3. His car has now 3 years and half and such problem came up still during warranty time. Basically if you were going at 120 km/h and took the foot out the pedal the car would vibrate from everywhere. This was the situation in which I noticed it. They replaced, tires, wheels, gear box etc..... and never managed to solve the problem.

My friend simply quit after a while and he told me last week "while it runs I won't take it to the service for any other problem, when it stops then we will see" pretty much he is tired of the problems the car gave him. Don't want to scare you guys just wanted to share this with you and make sure they know what they are doing in order to fix it otherwise they can be replacing parts without any need and we all know that they perform maintenance they don't assemble cars every day like in the plants.
