the paint shouldnt be faded as the laquer protects the paint.

Have you tried some T-Cut and some elbow grease?

no because the paint is mettalic

when i rub it a bit with my finger it goes away but only for around a second or so

a bit like that plastic trim polish if you get my drift

well i dunno if it wil work but i know it shouldnt damage the paint so you should give it a try, i read some1 using it to get rid of sap/road tar.

did u just pressure hose, or hand wash with a decent shampoo too?

Petrol will/should shift it but u will need to re wash the car and polish/wax afterwards. A clay bar should also work or a decent tar remover. Again, polish/wax the car afterwards to protect and get rid of any residue

You know I thought Loreal were full of it when they said their suncream was water resistant but seems they've lived up to the marketing pitch! I'd try some of the suggestions such as this stuff about clay bars. Let us know how it goes.
