Gt4 St205 Lost Some Power

Hi all.

About a week ago i purchased a 1996 toyota celica gt4 st205 fresh import. The car is totally standard and was running like a dream, however the car developed a suspension problem so the garage took it back under warranty and solved the problem.

I was chuffed to have it back but since i've had the car back it seems to have lost quite alot of it's power.

The turbo seems to kick in as normal but it does'nt seem to accelerate as hard.

Has anyone got any ideas what is causing this problem,is it a possibilty the garage may have done something to the engine/turbo to decrease it's power.

Hope someone can help me as i'm a bit blonde when it comes to cars.

You may find the equivalent diagram for your ST205 stuck to the underneath of the bonnet.

Good luck with solving it.

Thanks 4 the info, could anyone tell me if it is 1 of the vacuum hoses would the power b intermitant. What i am finding is that the power seems 2 come and go it does it even if the car has been running 4 a hour or more.1 minute i have powerful acceleration then after a while it still accelerates but not as hard,do u think this is still a vacuum pipe as the fault is so intermitant.

Thanks

Donna.

Not sure about it being intermittant part...

With regards to the garage, i would be taking it back to them to show them what has happend since they worked on the car.

It might be possible that the car is stuck in safe boost mode where it will only boost at a limited 7.5psi as opposed to 13psi. Take out the ECU/EFI fuses for 5 min and then replace them and start the engine.

If it was stuck in safe mode then that should reset it. Its a long shot but worth a try.

Regards

Fizz

check for error codes 1st!! when u open the bonnet there is a diagnostics port on the passanger side of the engine bay up beside the fire wall. if u open this and put in a bit of wire to short the 2 ports that are name e1 and te1. turn the car on and look at the engine management light on if it flashes uninterrupted then u have no error codes. it it flashes and pauses then u have error codes. most common will be code 54. u can tell the code by the number of times it flashes ie flash flash flash flash pause flash flash flash flash flash is 45. give that a got and see how it goes. error codes can reduce boost. can b as simple as toppin up the water in ur rad!!
