Squeeky/squeel, The Aux Drive Belt And Engine Timing Chain/belt Questi

ok my first question is

the aux drive belt also known as the fan belt, that goes around a set of pulleys correct and the alternator is what makes them spin? does the alternator have a tensioner for when the belt becomes loose ? so it tightens it?

if im correct then the cars that squeek, do they require a modified tensioner as replacing the belt will only be a temporary fix no?

also am i correct in saying that engines usually have timing belts and tensioners also, however the celica 7th gen has a timing chain?

im just asking because on cold days when i start the car i hear a squeeky noise constant until the car warms up after 5 mins when im driving, then all i hear is a very faint constant squeely noise like a sharp pitched "eeeeeeeeeee" if u know what i mean, i'm having difficulty locating it, i suspect it could be the fan belt or maybe a pulley needs some wd40 on the bearings that hold the pulley itself

i have a celica 2001 140bhp 48800 miles, no oil problems so far, i am going to upload a video of this shortly

*edit update

i've checked again and the squeeking definatley is coming from round about the fan belt area, sounds like it needs a new belt, when the engine was off it didn't seem as tight as i imagined,

requires a new AUX belt , (dont buy a toyota belt!) get a belt from any motor shop and fit it yourself ( only takes about 10 to 20 mins max ) and only costs about £ 14 to £15 . also yes both the 140 and 190 have timing chains ,heres a couple of links to help you !

Ok i had the EXACT same problem as you. The squeaking stopped as the engine got warm, this will not go away and you need to replace the auxillary drive belt. I cannot stress how easy a job this is!!! Toyota quoted me approx. £150 to change it, i got the part from 'Euro car parts' for a little over £10 and i took 15 careful minutes ( and that was dragging it out) to fit. for added safety take a photo before you remove the old belt and you just cannot go wrong....surely.

I'll add that not every squeak is obviously this belt, although it is the most common problem. The tensioner can sometimes fail, however in order to decide that you will need to change the belt anyway. Please see the links posted by above, the latter being started by me when i had this problem. Good luck, and i hope you repost when your celica is totally squeak free :D
