Problem In Engaging Reverse In Auris 1.4 D4d Manual

It's even worse when cold but when i move the gearstick into reverse i get the impression that is logged on and then GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...oooopppppssss.

Move it to neutral and then there it goes in the right way.

I had the same problem in my honda...and it seems that it's a Japan model problem...never seen anything similar in European cars.

I know it's an old thread however it'll be just for informations sake, for the possible future readers. ;)

When going into the reverse in manual transmission, get in neutral first and push the clutch completely and wait 1 or 2 seconds, then put the gear in reverse.

If you went from 1st to reverse quickly, it "might" do that sound.

If you didn't push the clutch completely, it "will" do that sound.

Again, sorry for the necro folks...

P.S. By the way the issue Grippen says, happens a lot to me when I'm going from 2 to 3 when I'm shifting extremely fast and every single time it happens, I know why but just can't help it. It's happening because of a minor synchronization problem, you just mess up the clutch and gear, you feet releases the clutch to early OR you're pushing to late. I know it's happening just because of that because happened to me so many times on different cars however I just can't focus on pedals and shift knob at the same time while that adrenaline rushes through me while going incredibly fast and I need to watch the rev and road, including the other car next to me so I mess up on the shifting part.

How can this be a problem??

You're in first gear.

Go into neutral.

Wait 1 or 2 seconds.

Get in reverse.

If it makes that sound again, now you got a problem.

Of course there will be a sound when you stick from 1st to R instantly!

also if you in neutral but car is slowly rolling forward and you get in reverse it will do GRRR ;)

BTW. I never had that in Toyota but sometimes get reverse in VW that is a challenge B)

Exactly Greg.

I also experienced the very same thing with a couple of Ford and Renault models and when I go into reverse the way I said earlier, there was no sound at all.

I get the same thing in my shiny new Auris... And I had the same thing in my T reg Yaris and the 53 reg Yaris, though not in the Focus I had in the middle.

Have come to the conclusion I am just not pushing it into reverse all the way as I only get the noise when reversing uphill and the stress in the gears is higher. It stops if I drop the clutch and push it into reverse harder without disengaging first.
