New Toyota Auris - First Service

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi

Having always bought second hand cars and no end of trouble, getting ripped off by many mechanics over the years etc, I decided this year to buy new.

I bought my first NEW Toyota - an Auris 6 months ago and no real problems.

The handbrake seems to have worked a bit loose in that the handle between the seats seems to wobble very slightly to the left and right. This is probably a minor adjustment

I have also not been happy with the accelerator, wher in first and second gear, the revs seem to jump as I change gear upwards. I assume this is a sticky cable, as discussed elsewhere on this forum - probably a minor adjustment.

My question is - I am coming up to the 6 month service in a couple of weeks. What can I expect to happen?

Will they fix my two problems free of charge?

What else will they do in this service?

How much am I likely to be charged for the first service, assuming there are no other problems?

Thanks in advance

Mike

In theory you shouldn't pay anything but since you will do it during the first service I wouldn't be surprise if they include the hours of fixing those problems in the bills I also though of this because I will do the same shortly to solve my rattles and brake noises. But then again it may not happen no way to know. The best would be to go there and leave the car no in service visit but in my case I already left it there 3 times that I'm so tired. First time to solve the alarm problems in the dealer i bought the car result they couldn't fix it. Second time on the HQ in Lisbon and they solved the alarm problem. Third time because of the scratches in my door.

Surely this would be covered by the warranty? Where would I stand if they do try this?

Should I agree this beforehand?

Would it be better to get the service done, then go back a week later waving the warranty at them?

The latter, although VERY inconvenient, would save on the $ / € etc.

Apologies about sounding naive, but as mentioned in my original posting, its my first new car, first non-backstreet service and have had bad experiences with mechanics in the past.

If your car was new six months ago, you dont need a service until 10K or 12 months. All other adjustments etc are covered by warranty so there will be no further bills, give your dealer a list of things you want looking at when you book it in

Ah - I was told by my dealer that I should take it in at 6000 miles or 6 months, whatever comes sooner. 3000 miles clocked, but 6 months have passed. I will play the warranty card and see how I go.

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

As Kingo says the service intervals are 1year/10.000 mile. Was it a 6 month check over the sales person mentioned and not a service. We do these checks just to make sure the car is fine and carry out a VSR (vehicle safety report), should be free.

Sounds like the handbrake cable just needs adjusting which will also be free and shouldnt take long (adjusts under the centre console) The side/side movement isnt adjustable but may become less when the cable is tightened.

The thing you say about the accelerator...this is normal i find when driving Auris that the revs rise slightly when changing gear. And depending which engine you have it may not even have a cable.

There,s no gascable on a Auris its a "fly by whire" system

Hi Mart - I think you are right. All the excitement of getting the car probably clouded my thoughts at the time.

Thanks for all the responses!

Left my Auris at the shop for the first 15 000 km service maintenance. I also reported the problems with noises, breaks and dashboard. Explained that they tried to fix the dashboard before but the noise returned after a month or 2. Later I will pick it up and let's see the result. So far so good they were very nice and cordial. Later I will tell you guys the result although in one trip I won't be sure the problems are solved.

Hi,

Did you see the level of the oil before going to service ? (in mine 1.4 d4d it was a little less that the middle of the oil mark stick)

what oil are you going to run on the engine ? (I am using the Visco 7000sport)

Tell us about how much did you pay, and what did they do.

Good luck :)

Ye sure I will. I don't know what oil they use I will ask now. I checked the oil 2 weeks ago was more then half up in "cold" so not consuming much oil so far. I think I will pay something like 109 euros its what I saw on the table they have there for the Auris and Corolla SD 1.4 D4D I'm not expecting more then that except maybe the wash I requested one but who knows maybe will be free :D
