Cable Colours

I have a Carina E and am fitting a new horn. The old one was earthed through the mount, I have to provide an earth wire to the new one. I can't see a colour for earth cables in my Haynes; is there a conventional colour for an earth wire? it will be unswitched.

Earth wires on Toyotas are normally Black. If you look around the engine bay you will see various straps connecting the engine to the body in the engine compartment.

For your problem, all you will need is a short piece of flex running from one of the horn connectors to the mounting bolt (the bolt itself when tightened to the slam panel should provide an adaquate earth). Crimped connectors at each end will do the trick.

Never had a problem with my horn. Is the replacement a genuine part or some universal fitment?

thanks for the colour tip

it is not a Toyota part but is louder (they came in a pair) and they work off the existing 10A relay). Branded "AllRide" and CE marked. I have an idea they are Italian

I have crimps so that should be easy. I intend to crimp on a ring terminal to put under the mounting bolt, with an insulated female spade at the other end of the wire.

they have a mounting strip but it is flimsier than the original horn assembly and I have bent it to shape.
