Tax On Rav4

Hey peeps, me other half was saying that all Rav 4's built after 2002 are subject to emissions related Tax, if ya know what i mean, is he right or has he been misinformed?

And am I right in understanding that the problematic DMF warranty extension is only applicable to those diesel Rav's that are built in the last 5 years? In which case am I also right in assuming that the DMF issues are only a problem in cars up to 5 years old, or is it a case that you hope to god if the DMF is also a problem in older cars, that its been sorted before I get me hands on one, only reason I'm asking is that the age of diesel rav4 i am looking at is between 2001 and 2004 :)

cheers

Jan

yer i shoulda sed private, n i have just looked at direct.gov page on tax and its states the following: The rates shown only apply to cars that have been type approved in category M1 and registered on the basis of CO2 emissions measured in grams per kilometre (g/km) driven. These details are shown on the Registration Certificate.

Whiiiiiiiiich is all well n good but how am I able to tell just by looking thro autotrader, which diesel rav's come under that category, altho it does mention a code TC49 which I am guessing must be relevant someonwhere down the line

cheers peeples :)

Most of the RAV D4D will be in category F for the 4.2 model.....

Where as the the newer 4.3 model 2.2 diesel's will be in Group E... unsure of the T180 though ;) ;)

With regard to the DMF. If I understand your question correctly. The 5 year 100,000 mile warranty applies to 4.2 diesels. It is a question of luck as to whether or not it fails. As long as it is less than 5 years old then it will be warranted but to be honest I am still not sure of the terms of the warranty. Some seem to get both parts and labour and others only parts.

You never know, maybe if you find one it will have been done. Unless the owner tells you there is no way of knowing.

Regards

yer i guess so but as i am planning on buying from a dealer, at least i will get a bit of warranty n if i buy an approved used rav from a toyota dealer i get a 12 month warranty.........that will give me enough time to save up some dosh to get the DMF fixed when it breaks on me 2 weeks after the warranty runs out pmsl

Incidentally is this DMF problem only occurring on 2.0l diesel engines, or on the 2.2l engines too? And also is it occurring on a specific years...2002...seems to come into play a lot, or has it been picked upon a number of different year models?

Sorry for all the quessies, but I am determined not to get caught out with a bad buy as best I can, hence the reason for choosing Toyota.....you don't get crap with jap, uusally :)

All of the RAV 4.2 diesels have the same DMF so you can't avoid it. However, you must undertand that because you have a diesel with a DMF that failure is inevitable because there are 1000's of them out there and they haven't all had it fail.

We don't know if the problem exists with 4.3's but given the nature of the beast it is hard to imagine that some won't be effected at some stage.

It is an aspiration of Toyota to do away with manual transmissions as soon as possible so the problem will eventually resolve itself. The CVT and automatics may well bring something else for us to worry about!

thank you all for your info its been very useful :)

i am thinking my best best would be to buy a used rav4 from an approved scheme with toyota thereby getting the 12 mth warranty, and i have a car to part ex which they are very interested in taking, poss to try n sell emselves n mebbe get a different type of customer in from their usual type, so i will have to make sure i get a rerally good deal both on the part ex price and on the rav.....:)

The T180 is also Group E, but only just. It scrape's in with 185g/km - right on the line!! :)
