Avensis Not Starting

I HAVE A V REG AVENSIS 2.0TD WHICH HAS BEEN PARKED UP FOR AROUND 6 MONTHS, I CHARGED THE Battery AND STARTED IT, AFTER AROUND THREE MINIUTES IT AUTOMATICALLY CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN, I THEN CHECKED THE WATER IN THE RADIATOR WHICH WAS NEARLY EMPTY TOPPED IT UP, THE ENGINE TURNS OVER BUT DOES NOT START, I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE THE IMMOBILISER, WHEN I TURN THE KEY, NO IGNITION LIGHTS COME ON EXEPT THE Battery LIGHT, CHANGED THE BATTERYS IN THE KEY FOB PUT DIESEL IN BUT STILL NO LUCK, HAS ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS WHAT IT COULD BE ?????

It is common for the Ignition swith to fail on the Avensis, you turn the key to start but the starter does not engage, is that your problem? If so it will be the switch on the back of the ignition key, they cost about £50 ish

does the key still unlock the doors

and arm the alarm ?

Well its not the switch then if it turns over, has the fuel filter been off to see if you have fuel at the filter, it may need bleeding if it has stood a while, you did say you had put diesel in, had it run out?

well if hes Turning the ignition... on..

and no other lights are turning on..

Needs to look at fuses or alarm.

Close all the doors and bonnet

Press the lock key..

If the doors lock and your indicator lights flash,

Unlock and try again.

If doors dont lock,

problem could be to do with the fob..

(as long as your central locking working berfore;)"

YES I PUMPED THE FILTER THERE IS DIESEL AT THE FILTER, I JUST PUT EXTRA DIESEL INN IT TO SATISFY MYSELF, BUT THERE STILL WAS NO LUCK, I AM CONFUSED, COS WHEN I FIRST STARTED IT, IT STARTED ON THE FIRST GO, STAYED RUNNING FOR AROUND 3 MINS THEN JUST CUT OFF,

I HAD MY LOCKS CHANGED, THE DOOR KEY AND IGNITION KEY ARE DIFFERENT, I LOCKED AND OPENED DOORS MANUALLY, THE CAR WAS RUNNING PERFECT BEFORE I PARKED IT UP, I CHANGED THE BATTERYS IN THE IGNITION KEY FOB, AS I THOUGHT IT COULD BE THAT,

ANY IDEA WHAT KIND OF FUSE IT COULD BE, COS THE FOB WAS NOT WORKING FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR, THE IGNITION KEY AND DOOR KEYS ARE DIFFERENT COS THE LOCKS HAVE BEEN CHANGED, BUT IT WAS OK BEFORE, AND WHEN I STARTED IT, IT STAYED RUNNIN FOR AROUND 3 MINS THEN JUST CUT OFF, I CHANGED BATTERYS IN FOB WILL SEE IF THAT WORKS, AINT BEEN BACK TO THE CAR YET, BUT THE INDICATION THAT ONLY THE Battery LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE IGNITION IS ON INDICATES THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ALARM OR IMMOBOLISER, AND DO YOU NO IF THE IMMOBOLISER IS CONNECTED TO THE FUEL PUMP OR THE ELECTRICS TO STOP IT FROM STARTING

My understanding of the alarm/imobliser is...

the key has a transponder install in it..

When you stick it in the ignition and turn the key..

the reader in the ignition.. gets the codes off the key..

So if the transponder or reader is faulty.. could show similar problems.

the imobilser will be conected to the pump and engine managment.

Check Main realy and ignition fuses underthe bonnet near the batt.

Firstly, PLEASE STOP TYPING IN CAPITALS. It makes it really hard to read what you've written.

Secondly, If it ran, but then stopped, you have fuel and the engine is turning over, it could be a blockage in the fuel filter.

the main problem being is when you put ignition on the Battery light only comes on, and the window will not go up or down, i will try the diesel filter anyway,

i got it going :) , was towing it and decided to give it a jump start, and it started, even though i changed the Battery in it it was not starting, but when i jumped it, it started,

you may want to check the starter motor

although it turns over, it may not be turning fast enough to ignite the engine

it's true.....had mine replaced and works like a dream...you notice the difference believe me...instant firing !!
