Engine Comparison

What is the difference between the 140HP and the 190HP Celica Generation 7?

I know its 50HP before anybody says anything, but i was wondering what engine internals are different and could the 140 be modified to match the 190 model?

No not really.

The 1ZZ - 140bhp version is a variable valve timing engine

The 2ZZ - 190bhp version is a variable valve timing and lift engine

The cylinder head sub assembly (head/cams/valves etc) and intake system are totally different.

From memory the cylinder blocks come from the same castings but the linings are of a very different process. May still work though.

All in all the amount you'd spend on trying to mod the engine to the 190 level would cost a hell of a lot more and be a lot more hassle than just buying a recon/second hand 190 engine

I'd agree that it's not worth trying to convert the VVTi engine to a VVTLi; it's not even the same bore and stroke - so the cranks are different too 79.0 x 91.5 on the 140 and 82.0 x 85.0 on the 190.

I'd be surprised if it's even worth putting a 190 engine into a 140 car unless you're very attached to it; the VVTLi cars have so many other changes too; In most cases you'd be better off trading in your 140 for a 190.
