Warning Over Insurance 'fronting'

About time too really - it is fraud and fraud puts the rest of law-abiding motorists premiums up!

If you can't afford to drive legally then you should wait until you can IMO.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but if a young lad waited til he was 21 his premium would be slightly lower to begin with and then he can build up his own no claims from scratch - like the rest of us have to, plus will be less immature and less likely to try and do stupid things to "impress" his mates... not meaning to tarnish all with the same brush of course.... I'm sure there are a few mature young people around, but the majority are not!

Man I'm getting old!

Yes it is wrong and shouldnt happen but insurance should NOT be as high as it is, it is alright for young female drivers, i once changed my s*x from female to male [Not literally!!] and it saved me 600 pound, now to me that is ridiculous, ok blokes have more crashes but there are more young male drivers on the road than females so its bound to happen......

Since insurance is so high people are looking left right and centre for ways to get out of it, since i have owned my car [17 birthday] i have spent 500 less on insurance than the car is worth, to me that is daylight robbery!

Another policing job done by sitting behind computers - making more money for everybody in the business as that's all they care about.

It's about time they got more cops on the road, can't remember the last time I seen one

Might aswell just take off my number plates

The main reason insurance is so high is because so many people fraud the system! If everyone had insurance, then honest motorists wouldn't get it in the neck and premiums would be lower in the first place... so people trying to save a few quid by the likes of fronting are actually making it worse for the rest of us!

As I said, if people can't afford to keep a car then they should wait until they can - not try and get round the cost by unlawful means!

Young lads have more crashes because they're more likely to show off to their mates or buy a car bigger than they can actually handle! Hence why their insurance is naturally higher... whereas women are more sensible, don't tend to succumb to peer pressure and are happy with a little 1.0 group 1 insurance hatchback they don't feel the need to modify ;)

So you honestly believe that insurance would go down if people didnt try and "fraud" the system, if everyones details on the insurance database were perfectly correct, then insurance would stay exactly were it is. All insurance companies want is money and the best way they can get it is charging young drivers.

Yes young lads have more crashes because yes they do show off and yes they do silly things, but its all a learning curve, so yes i believe we should pay more money as said in first post but not this OBSCENE amount we pay now, its utterly ridiculous as the excess for the crashes are higher aswell, my excess is £650 pound plus the massive amount i pay them a year, so this means what they have to pay out for like a quarter of the car if i was to crash.............that is not insurance, its money stealing!

And with the point you are trying to make with modifying, i pay so little extra to insure the mods compared to standard car its less than 10%, insurance companies need to sort themself out or people will insist on trying to find ways to cheat the systema and TBH sometimes i dont blame them, i have done everything to the book since day one and its got me no where, and alot poorer for it!

As you get older you will not feel the same about insurance companies.

Your premiums, and excess will get less.

You will then realise that by loading the premiums of younger drivers the insurance companies are able to offer quality cover for everyone.

When a young driver defrauds an insurance company by "fronting" their insurance all it does is make everyone (Young and older) pay more for their insurance.

Obviously when you get older and become more experienced insurance will drop but i do not believe it should be anywhere near as much for young drivers, especially male.

Especially as when you are younger you do not tend to have as much expendable cash, i believe they should introduce a scheme where you have to stay with them for X amount of years and it makes insurance cheaper when you are younger as that will benefit everyone!

Cheaper insurance is the only thing to look forward to when your getting old

I would rather insurance companies focus on un-insured drivers than those who are bending the rules so to speak

It also works out cheaper to drive without insurance than it is for you to get caught a couple of times - what a joke

NO...........IT IS NOT LEGIT  .....................fronting is where the parent insures the car as the main driver with the son/daughter as a second driver, when they know all the time that the son/daughter will be the main driver.

It is illegal and can result in the son/daughter being prosecuted for driving without insurance.

That puts up the costs for other law abiding motorists

well yea when you put it like that then its a bit iffy, because the main driver never actually drives it.

me and my mom share the car, about 50/50, so its all fine and dandy :P

police still pulled me the other night though and gave me a producer asking to see my insurance

how inconvenient

i can just hear fred west stating emphatically that he wasn't guilty of anything either

sadly, judging from the way the most influential part of the crowd believes that insurance companies really are benevolent not for profit organisations; tasked with looking after us all, and being financially kind to all and sundry, its apparent theres little point in bothering....

bites lip again
