Corollas Shape

Hiya, ever since my dad got his Corolla I always thought it looked nice but I never "realised" it if you know what I mean, i.e. it was more of a subconscious thing rather than looking at it and thinking "Yes, that car looks really good". Recently however, I have realised how good it looks. Firstly I wanted to get a 406 after passing my test, but I heard that they had electrical problems which were quite expensive to fix.

And as my dad's Corolla has done 200,000 miles and is still going strong, I plan to get one of my own when I pass. Coming back to the thing about it being really nice looking, it is one of those cars that you can "see the potential" in if you know what I mean. Sort of like an Impreza or a Lancer. It has that certain something that sets it off to make it look really good when you look at it. Sort of like a sparkle in someone's eye, or in this case in the car's headlight.

The model I mean is the 1993 model with a little flick up at the back. I just love the way the roof slopes downwards like on a Porsche (not that I like Porsches but I like that particular characteristic), and the grinning headlights or "face" as I like to call the front of cars. I also just love the back as well with those rear lights that have a blas'e look about them and the nice combination of red and white. The car also has fantastic customisation potential. I can just imagine one done up really tastefully. Spoilers in particular look good with the low rear window.

And one last thing, does anyone else thing that this model always looked a bit ahead of it's time? There are probably dozens of other things that I love about that model that I have missed out, but I will be sure to add them if I remember ;) Edit: Oh yeah, I don't know why they went and spoilt it with that bug eyed version. I forgot to add that I never liked that one. B.T.W., can someone tell me the model code of the one I described please? This is the shape I like, it is just really cool looking.

well, i do love that despite all the things i've done to my 'rolla she keeps on going, however our views do differ slightly, the corolla which you do not like (the frog eye'd one) happens to be my favourite, so much so i own one  and i think its the best look simply because.... well i can't explain it but i like it's contravertial styling ;)

the model code your looking for is either an AE101 or EE101

While liking the design of my last two later shape T-Sports I have always had an affection for the shape of my previous '97 GS three door.

The three door is especially nice in its WRC clothes B)

I know what u mean abvout look of some cars that u like, its like my old 1997 Mazda 323F Lantis i sold years ago back then my mates/family all loved the look of them as it was very sporty & even today it looks cool & modern & alot say(even myself) it looks better than the later generation (1998-2003)Mazda 323F i recently sold ! which Corolla your reffering to? back in the 90's there was quite a few differnt styles ! as long as your not reffering to the 1998 corolla i just cant get use to that one back then or now !but that jst each to their own i guess since some like it....... however i like the one i got now not that im bias i always liked the AE92 Levin ever since seeing them in Hong kong back in 1992, all was sold there to the last AE111 made, the BZ-R mmmm thats the only one i swap my TS for,lol

Fair enough. B.T.W., why would there be two different model codes for the same shape?

I think it would look good in the W.R.C. clothes, but they are not "it's" W.R.C. clothes, they belong to the oval headlighted Corolla which is what I think you mean; you must have just muddled your words. It is weird though, because they had the oval headlight Corolla for the 1997 W.R.C. but the model wasn't out until 1998!

Not the one with the oval lights, no. You know like I said in my description the one with the tailgate that has a little "flick" up at the back and looks like it is grinning from the front?

the two different codes refer to the engine type:

AE101 - 1.6L engine

EE101 - 1.3L engine

and the frog ey'd (or 'oval' light) corolla was available in late 97' as my stepmother owns one, but you are right in thinking that because they weren't made in the UK til 98' as the first few were actually mae in japan! (not derby as they are now)

Aaaaaaay, that's the one! It's absolute hatchback perfection :) It would be a dream to have a diesel one of them as my first car. And if I can get it to run on vegetable oil then perfect! But that is a different story...
