Weird Starter Motor Issue

Ok, so when the car is hot and i turn it off, [sOMETIMES]the starter motor turns but it doesn't connect with the gearbox (i hear it tick over, i hear the wurrng, but no firing), then when it cools down, I have to move the car about 20-30m (about 22-35 yards i think) by hand, then it turns over fine :/

Any ideas?

try removing the starter motor and get it tested on a test bed, if you know someone else with the same car, swap starters to try and elliminate the problem
