Water Leak

Can someone please help point me in the right direction....

I have a 1 year old MR2, had a few teething problems with it but discovered that there is now water in my locker compartments behind the seats....

I phoned my local dealership, and spoke to the most un-helpful person alove, who told me that i needed to unblock the drain holes, explained to me where they were so when i got home that day i set out to empty these drain holes but to no avail the instructions he'd give me were rubbish! they weren't where he said they were....

So i've trawled the net and found a few forums and articles about how to unblock these but i still can't figure out how to do it! one site said to remove the bits on the right and left of the car just behind the doors and their in there..... I don't want to go taking my car apart for them to be in the wrong place...

Feel like the proper stupid woman who knows nothing.....but they should really sell a crytsal ball with these cars if they expect you to figure this stuff out!!

I wish i could! i've had quite a lot of problems with it for only being a year old, i've had the door seals re-aligned as water was getting in from there, fuses replaced because the alarm would go off randomly, and the handbrake is a joke - it won't hold and actually rolled causing quite alot of damage which the garage won't cover because it was in 'manufacturers specification' apparantely! even after its been tightened it still won't hold so i have no idea how they can call it in spec!

As its been raingin quite alot over the last few days, my lockers are now full of water! :(

Ahh...Autumn. The season of mists and mellow fruit...a time when the air is filled with the sound of Mk3 owners clearing out their drains! Follow Les's tips...and soon your car - unlike the Titanic - will be watertight again!

By the way(re handbrake) NO garage can claim - with impunity - that it wasn't their fault - because the car was "to spec". Either the handbrake is: "Not fit for purpose" OR...

There is no doubt that the lever needs to be pulled a lot further than on MANY other popular models. And the problem is compounded by the fact that the low seat doesn't make it easy. However, if you really believe that none of this applies to you...then you must seek redress with the garage. It's your right under Consumer Protection laws...

Tightening the cable beyond the manufacturer's spec., is not the answer - as the parking brake will bind on the discs when the brake lever is released (I have a fellow poster to thank for that advice - try a quick search on the subject)...

Hi

I had the same problem in October when i bought my 06 model. I think the previous owner kept it outside. The Toyota dealer where i bought it was useless and then i found this site.

I followed Les' instructions and it was very simple. They are cleared and i haven't had a problem since.

Stick with Les and you won't go wrong :D
