Afternoon all, newbie here to pick your brains:

My daughter has recently passed her test and has bought a 1989 1.0 12v Starlet GLS (EP70R). Having now discovered that workshop manuals are as rare as patient teenage daughters I would like to know...

a) If anyone has one (a manual, not another daughter) I could buy/have a copy of, and...

B) When the accelerator is released there is a very slow damping of the throttle as it returns to rest. I can watch it happening if I'm looking under the bonnet and it doesn't happen if the choke is out. Is this an intended 'feature' and if so is it adjustable? It's very annoying!

Thanks for any advice,

Si

Hi mate,

doesn't sound right to me. Might be something as simple as a blocked airway or vacuum hose.

Good luck anyway !

Thanks Rich. I have checked all the MANY vacuum tubes for leaks but I didn't remove them to see if they were blocked. Good idea, I'll try that next.

It must be something that Toyota intended to happen but I doubt they wanted it to take 3-4 seconds for the engine to get back to idle! There's an awful lot of coiled springs on that side of the carb and I really don't want to take it apart.

strangely enough, I've got that very item on my desk as we speak.

If you disconnect the throttle cable and move it manually, the quadrant should snap back almost immediately. It's not inconcievable that this action is being damped by a build up of sludge.

( it's very straight forward to strip and clean.......don't let the big spring scare you! )

Hmm... it looks very clean but I will have another look at it if it ever stops raining!!!

Thanks for the reply.

Simon.
