Rattle

Hi, :)

Recently my car has developed a rattle type noise from the engine. I've had the car since mid september, so maybe it could have been doing it all of the time.. but I don't seem to remember it doing it anyway.

The noise sounds like it's coming from the top end possibly. Maybe the top end needs reshimming? Can't really pinpoint it exactly, but the car isn't knocking or using oil or anything. When started from cold, the car sounds fine... but when warm and idling, you can sometimes hear it. Sometimes it's worse than other times (Louder), although I've only had it reasonably loud on two ocassions. If you maintain the revs at around 900/1000rpm you can hear it... anymore and it doesn't seem to be audable anymore.

It has made the noise loud at idle once before. It was a while ago, but I remember turning the car off after a run (Wasn't making the noise at idle before I turned it off), and then when I started it up a couple of minutes later... it started making the noise at idle quite loud.

If this was the big end bearing shells or something on the bottom end, it wouldn't do it at idle would it. Wouldn't it gradually get worse, rather than sometimes being loud... and then not being too loud at all?

The car is a Jap import ST205 GT4 with 90000 miles on it. Run on V-Power since I bought it as a fresh import, and a genuine toyota oil filter with Silkolene PRO S 5W-40. :)

Many thanks for any advice. :)
