I have a 95 Rav 4 2 ltr. running on LPG. works a treat regularly serviced but failed MOT due to High Emissions in the 6 range.

local chap done analyser and readings all to pop... suspect computer fail?

cat fits after the downpipe if you got long tubed version you need to put it in.

Toyota said bring it in we will analys and run computor test says no fault codes? (not what I asked to do) sugested must be the Catt. got new Catt ..($200 pound fitted ATS) guess what new MOT and failed reading in the 6 range..

WTF...

asked for a tuner to try tune up but i will search scrap mercants in kosovo and grab all sensors so i can test when I get home.

any ideas car has 120000 but runs sweet and comfy. should i scrap it?

depending on the LPG management system used, some of them have an ecu thing which basically takes it lead from the petrol system - so if the petrol system is wrong, then the lpg will be as well.

At 120k miles, the 3SFE engine will, I expect be using a little oil/slightly smoky but not so bad as to fail the MOT. Did the garage try the normal things like ensuring the engine is up at working temperature?

You could try an engine tuning specialist (don't bother with dealers as they don't understand LPG) who also deals with propane. Maybe check the spark plug gap as I seem to remember its slightly different when running with LPG.

Other thing is what we've tried with the landrover - cans of the 'no-smoke' stuff that you add to the fuel (not to the LPG as it would be rather hard!).

Nitrous oxide is meant to be good.

I'd also try feeding it some higher octane petrol.

If need be, borrow another RAV and change the plates.

I don't have a cat after the downpipe, just a front converter in the manifold.

Missing part From looking at this picture I just have a straight through where part no 311289 is. Adding a cat here would obviously help with the emissions, but seems weird how it has passsed in previous years without one (or the additional sensor??)

Some MOT stations will pass - the threshold date for emmissions is around 1993/4???

I still think you may have a 3SGE engine fitted.

It is an import, and it certainly seems to shift!! I'll have a look tonight to see if I can tell.

According to Coles guide to replacing his manifold converter it seems to be the same problem and layout and there was no mention of a 2nd cat in that description.

I'll be taking to a guy who specialises in Japanese imports on Saturday if I can't get it sorted myself by then. He used to work on my FTO but hopes he can apply a similar knowledge to the Rav!!

The RAV was fitted with the 3SFE engine which was quite nippy - 18.5 secs standing quarter mile. The 3SFE has been used in a few other cars as well.

There was a post from a chap a few months ago who had an import with a 3SGE engine - which is generallly found in MR2s I think, and was fitted to RAVs elsewhere. Its a better engine and faster again.

I'd have thought you could doctor the engine for the MOT test with the nitrous or smoke free stuff. If my landrover managed to pass an MOT earlier this year (in South Wales) then anything is possible. I could give you the garages name as they obviously have a sensory-impaired MOT mechanic. (Are you allowed to say bent on this forum?).
