thats for your reply. the mechanic is 100% that its not the turbo! he has looked as all the seals etc and said its all fine. he work on a load of turbo cars and knows his stuff i was just a bit concerned that he said head gasket when every else is tellin me thats there is a very slim chance that it is that. i guess i will leave him to it and hope that he right.

not to dis him or anything, but if the leak test was fine how would the oil be coming out of the DV? Last time I checked the head gasket doesn't connect to the intake other than via the oil ways into the sump and then out through the breather but that would show as a failed leakdown surely??

Also I'd like to know how he checked the turbo oil seals without taking it to bits... just because theres no play in the shaft doesn't mean the seals haven't gone.

If you confident in him then go with what he says, I'd just make a deal with him regarding work cost before hand in case he's wrong.

On the other hand you could always give Ian Smith a bell he'll point you in the right direction. Seen him diagnose a loose ps belt pulley and dry clutch release bearings by listening to the engine through a mobile phone before :D

unless your mechanic took the exhaust off the trubo then you'll never know if it's the cause, mines blew but it was only when i held one side of the shaft and managed to spin the other that i realised, there was very little play otherwise

Full engine rebuild mate! plenty of money I can tell ya, I went the forged internals route though so you could repair it cheaper than I did.

Mine was sparyin oil out the BOV yeah. and its now fine :)

  • 3 months later...

Ok this is the problem i am having and i desperately need help because we are stuck for solutions. I Have a 1995 celica gt4 st205 jap import on 68,000 miles, the car was brilliant when i bought it mechanically sound just a few scrapes on the interior. Unfortunately i crashed it the crash wasnt massive but it crushed the bumper taking out most stuff up to the radiator fortunately not damaging the engine. i got an entire front end second hand same colour for 1300 quid had it built back up by some crash specialist who did a good job.

The problem i have had since the crash is the coolant system is completely round the bend. Basically what happens as far as i can tell is the coolant is boiling/spirting out the radiator expansion tank. The temperature gauge stays in the middle until the loss of coolant becomes so bad there isnt enough to cool it down and the gauge climbs towards the red. I tried putting the a/c fan on to try to cool it down but no luck. So far we have checked the oil for milky deposits, pressure test, check the plugs, changed the thermostat, changed the radiator cap, flushed out the radiator. Other people have suggested a cracked cylinder head or a broke water pump can anyone say if there any other symptons for these 2 problems. If anyone can help me it would be great because we are thinking maybe its the head gasket starting to go and we're considering replacing it i just dont want to go into the engine and find its not the head gasket.

I need help.

cheers

Mike
