Sorry for my english, I am spanish, I have a Toyota Corolla Verso (2 months), and I want to warm other buyers about a problem that I had with my Verso.

My 11 months old suffered an accident produced by the rear central seat belt. The central passanger release the seatbelt, and the normal behavior of the seatbled, get the belt catapulted to fece of my son, hitting him on his eye, producing him internal an external !Removed! injuries.

My son is now fully recovered, but we had to carry him to hospitals, doctors, etc.. And were very worried.

I think I have the obligation to warm other users!!

Be carefull releasing the seatbelt, you could hit the passanger on the right, if is a child you could hit on the head, or face of him.

I have recorded a video showing the problem:

Sorry again for my english I am spanish.

My feeling is that you'll probably find that this isn't an issue if you put the child set on the left hand side, i.e. diagonally behind the driver's seat (I think this is standard as this position allows you to turn around and see your child.) -- whoever fitted the seat (if done professionally) should have been aware of this.

This would be correct the side in Spain though I imagine, as the steering wheel is on the left over there (and therefore opposite to the child seat in the video clip).

Quite shocking though and I hope it has been brought to Toyota's attention.

thanks for the heads up and glad your child is now ok....

I never really thought about it as we rarely use the centre seat but I can see where it might be dangerous

Thanks for this thread, and particularly for taking the time to post a video. I think we're about to order a Verso, and this could well save us a trip to the hospital.

I have had a closer look at mine and there seems to be two buckles where you put the belt end in !! one is diagonal which fastens like any other seat belt and the other is across your waist ( LAP) by using both buckles (diagonal and across your lap) I do not think the belt will fly up and hit your face as you have to use the key which is in the ignition fob to undo the lap buckle.

I may have it wrong but if you look on the rear passenger drives side( on right hand drive cars ) the seat belt buckle holder there are two holes one for the rear belt of that passenger( drivers side) and one hole for the lap buckle of the middle seat passenger.

Perhaps somebody else would look or have I been connecting them up incorrectly

I hope this ramble makes sense
