Hi,

I'm new to the owners club.I have an avensis diesel, 1998. Smoke comes through the centre vents when driving. Garages don't seem too interested. Any ideas what it could be.

Many thanks in advance.

Is it smoke or steam?

Does it smell like smoke?

Are you losing any coolant or oil as a result?

Kingo

In that case I'd say it was a leak in the heater matrix. Not the end of the world, but you'll want to get it sorted - especially as winter draws on !

Welcome by the way

Yes the heater matrix sounds favourite, it will be steam from the coolant leaking into the car

The heater matrix was taken out of my Celica....most of the dashboard was in the front room. .from the sounds of it with all the swearing and moaning at my car he did (and A LITTLE BLOOD LOSS) .......its not the quickest of jobs in the world....best mate ended up in alllll kinds of positions getting at various parts to get at it and to put it back!!!!!!! B)

But it is doable!!!!!

I'm just after having the dash out ( no cold air coming through side vents !). this is depressing. I wonder could i just keep topping up the coolant and leaving it as it is? Are there problems down the road with this approach ?
