T180 Depreciation

Hi all,

Was thinking of changing my T180 for 2 cheaper cars to do the nursery run with the kid as we only have the one car just now and what a shock i got at the TOYOTA garage :o .

Mines is a T180 yew green 1st reg 31/5/06 with 13000mls with the side steps and FTSH. Cost new was around £27500.

I reckoned it was worth £19995 as they are in the dealers at £20995.

Cheeky buggers offered me just less then £19k

What do you reckon they are worth?

That may be the worst part of depreciation over i suppose!

They always say the first 2 or 3 years the first owner faces the worst depreciation....Good for us buyers looking at upgrading bit not so for the poor seller...

I would get out Parkers Price guide and have a look or go online and see........Stealers will always giv bottom line then add ontop to make some....

Unfortunately, that sounds about right.

I had a quick search on the Parker's website and it said Part -ex for a 2006 / 06 reg T180 was £18,425.

And please be aware that Parker's is usually considered over optimistic, sometime to the tune of £1,000.

The T180 was always going to suffer the biggest fall because of it's huge price differential over the rest of the RAV range.

It also has to be said that RAV's has a whole are not holding their value like they once did because a) fashion is turning against SUV's, b ) there is a greater range of SUV models on the market then before.

How terrible is that? Selling a RAV4?

Get the little blighters to walk. I remember the time when I had to walk 3 miles to school in the morning; 3 miles home at lunch, then 3 miles back for the afternoon session before the final 3 miles home.

I got bullied by an older gang, but just grew up a bit tougher. That was life then. The old man took the car to work in Liverpool and that was it.

You are not going to get retail money for your car if you sell it to a dealer. The dealer will have to make his margin, pay for servicing, valeting, interest charges, VAT etc. A dealer can always drop his price, and that's what happens when the car sits on the forecourt at say 21K for a month, then the book price drops at the month end, so the dealer has to drop the pice a bit, and that happens each month until the car is sold. Joe Egg comes in to buy the car and the dealer then tailors a deal using some of the margin he has in the forecourt car, against the part ex you want to bring in. At the end of the day, if the dealer doesnt make 1K gross margin on a car, he will probably soon be out of business, considering the above mentioned costs that have to come out of that 1K gross profit

There is considerably more money in used cars than new ones, and depreciation the day after you take it out of the showroom is considerable (just think of the VAT on a 28K car, you will never get that back) There is always a difference between buying in and selling out price, the trouble is, we all want retail price for our part exchanges and to pay trade prices for our next used car, sadly, its not going to happen

Parkers has the car new at 27K, Dealer used price 21,245, Part exchange price 18,425, so I dont think you were offered a bad deal at 19K, it's just not what you were looking for, but our expectations are always higher than reality

Parkers prices T180 RAV

Kingo

Thanks for the replies guys!

I think id rather keep the car and do double runs or buy a runner than give the dealer my car.

I will just keep it till its 3years old as originally planned.

Hopefully it will be worth 50% of new value then I could stomach that!

What a silly thought  selling my rav! As if!

anchorman - I'll watch the clip again when i find the plug for the Speakers for the new computer!" Thanks and I know I'll enjoy watching it with some volume. My office is 4' by 12' (cupboard) and accessing the back of the computers is a tad awkward cos I'm old. It does however offer me some privacy from anyone else as theres only room for 1. Apart from 3 computers running 24/7, a bookcase; 2 3-drawer filing cabinets and my swivel chair with arms (no ma arms by the way) and an IKEA BEech computer desk; and a large cross-cut paper masher; there are 2 Speakers ...where the wires have been disconnected when I swapped to a quad core 4mb memory 1.5TB hard disc memory machine (for pictures of my RAV).

KEV - I looked at eBay 2 days ago and 4.1s seem to be going for around £900. Jist that I'm tempted to have another mad RAV.....the XJS V12 5.3litre engine might just fit with a little bodywork change to the bulkhead....
